Caboose – Left For Dust
Caboose is a fuzzed out stoner rock band from Stockholm, Sweden. Their lineup consists of Dante Lindström on guitar and lead vocals, Olle Leppäniemi on guitar and backup vocals, Herman Serning on bass, and Oskar Bergman on drums. Formed in 2022, Left For Dust is their debut album, released on March 21st 2025 on Majestic Mountain Records. The album features nine tracks around thirty minutes long.
Caboose are a young band that started playing together in high school. They have a nice fuzzed out groove to their songs that resonate well within the riff rocking universe. The gritty guitar sounds and high octane rhythms are music to my ears. The opening track “High On You” starts with a dirty guitar tone that charges ahead with a hard driving sound. It brings back the old school fuzz vibe of Fu Manchu and early Suplecs too. “Shiner” has that infectious riffing blazed with heavy rocking rhythms. Dante Lindström’s vocals definitely have that Scott Hill and Eddie Glass sound, ignited by a heavy psych guitar wah explosion. “For So Long” has the gritty distorted tones with nice catchy vocal melodies. The songs mostly stay within the three minute range and encapsulate that mid tempo rocking groove.
“Crimson Haze” is right out of the early Nebula playbook and is a fury of rocking rage. Caboose really amplifies these songs with an almost fight or die ethos. Some tracks begin somewhat mellow like “Sophie’s Sushi Wok” or “For So Long” but then quickly morph into a full throttle fuzz rocking drag race. “Fuzzed Out Mind” has a cranked amp attitude that steamrolls across the desert. The cowbell accelerated “Cement Surfer” is a high octane fury of hard rocking frenzy with a powerful and catchy chorus. “Feedback City” has a heavy swaggering groove to the rhythm that just coasts along elegantly through the waves of fuzz.
The ninth and final track entitled “Spacerod”, is the longest track on Left For Dust. The almost five minute scorcher carries a full Fu Manchu vibe with the almost talking vocals and the raw and fuzzy riffage that connects. Caboose plays that desert sound exquisitely paying homage and commendation to the pioneers of the heavy fuzz. It’s not exactly original but it feels fresh and nostalgic in its execution. I really enjoy these eleven songs and can imagine this band really developing into their own with their next release. They are a young band and talented musicians and are definitely on the right track for continued growth and greatness. As the nicer and warmer weather is finally here, Left For Dust is the perfect summer record to be cranking down the highway or on a beautiful country road.
