DeGreaver – White Noise EP

DeGreaver is a varied psychedelic stoner rock power trio from Lübeck, Germany. Their sound is a mix of fuzz-laden blues, stoner, grunge, heavy psych, riff rock, and beyond. The band consists of Cornelius DeGreaver, Bela DeGreaver & Henrix DeGreaver. They have released one full length album, 2022’s Between Green And Blue. On January 21st 2025, DeGreaver released an EP called White Noise EP, which features five tracks at twenty eight minutes long.

The band’s clever description states: “A book of quotes from 60’s and 70’s psychedelic rock in their pocket and spinning wheels across stoned rocks, these guys ride down dusty trails and passes. Pounding beats and crooked guitars are driving high flying birds into the shimmering heat before the blues of night brings all sinners back to light and the weird circus leaves town again.” They also described White Noise as such: “Our new EP was recorded in 2024 again with our “4th member” Ingo Bednarek (Fuzzie Bär, Dude of all Dudes from Hannover). It contains 5 songs, including a “Love Song”, Song No. 4. This song made two lovers marry each other – one of the best reasons to put it on the record, we think. All the others are as fast & slow, as groovy & bluesy, as fuzzy & psych, as stoned & waterkant blended as you’re used to it. Enjoy! Sincerely yours, Captain DeGreaver

I was very impressed upon hearing DeGreaver. They have a fantastic sound and have created an intriguing and expansive collection of great songs with the White Noise EP. The snappy drum beat and muted guitar riffing gets the music rolling right from the start, as the first track “White Noise” commences. The funky psychedelic rhythms are rocking and grooving right from the start, as the Josh Homme style vocals sings along. The guitar lead rips into a glorious blues style solo midway through as the rhythm section keeps the tone very smooth and vibrant. The band has a simple yet convoluted approach to these songs that adds such great appeal to their depth. For instance, right after the guitar solo, they create an off kilter running bass line with guitar octave accents that yields a progressive slant to the song. It sounds very cool and well executed.

The next track, “Queen Of Hellfire” is a blazing rocker that has a feverish pace with a strong and catchy sound. The Queens Of The Stone Age style vocals are right in sync to the fuzz filled riffing and animated leads with the break pauses of funky bass and dynamic drumming. This is a head bobbing rocking tune that will put a smile on your face. The third song, “Magazine” has a nice staggering blues feel at the beginning. DeGreaver are talented musicians who understand musical dynamics where they amp up the fuzz on the catchy chorus. More bass and drum grooving with electrifying leads to fill in the music at all the right moments. The sound quality is fantastic on this recording and each instrument expresses a full range of sounds that all cohesively fit together like a well oiled, rock machine.

“Tree Of Love” changes the pace to a beautiful and mellow tone that really embodies the talents of these musicians. The psychedelic and bluesy guitar strumming are matched superbly with the deep and soulful vocal performance. The song includes some textured keyboards in the background that further enhance the creative flow of the track. The band has boasted that this is their “love song” and it has an aesthetic and bewitching aura throughout. They totally nail it and it shows another side to the band that feels like they are drifting on shores of divinity. The song is a spellbinding caressing of adoration and love.

Finally, the fifth and final track called “Restless Soul” makes its play. The kaleidoscopic beginning is a mind altering experience filled with airy psychedelic sounds. The drawn in synth and clean guitar and bass teasing are excellent. Broadened with a simple drum beat, the music slowly builds up in which the melodic vocals appear. Just after the 3:15 mark, the guitar fuzz kicks in and the song extracts some excellent blues licks. That all changes once the four minute interval hits and the band cranks out a notable heavy stoner rhythm. They erupt in a righteous groove and they are in full on jamming mode at this point. They splice some infectious leads into the rhythm and rock out hard for the next few minutes. The song derives snare marches and scratchy muted riffing, as it crescendos up and then slows right down into a trickle.  They then crank out a monstrous and intoxicating heavy rhythm in which the vocals join right in, to end this magnificent song with a beautiful fade out. The nine plus minute behemoth is fantastic!

DeGreaver has really impressed me with these five tracks. I will definitely be checking out the Between Green And Blue album because this band is excellent. I am thoroughly enjoying this EP and have been listening to it on repeat for a few days now. The underground music scene continues to thrive as I discover new gems like this one. It’s truly amazing on how vast and varied the genre is, as bands like DeGreaver totally knock it out of the park with less than thirty minutes of music.
