Dërro – Halcyon
Dërro is a stoner rock band from Asheville, North Carolina. They consist of Neal Brewer, Corey Tossas, and Pat Gerasia. They released their debut EP entitled Halcyon on August 1st 2025. It contains six rocking tracks clocking in around twenty four minutes.
The title track ”Halcyon” kicks in with a nice heavy groove of rocking bliss. The vocals have an Alice In Chains sound on the verses and are melodious and powerful throughout. The simplicity of the crunchy riffs are catchy and appealing. The song writing on this record is excellent. The band has great musical dynamics that keep everything interesting. “Echo Mountain” is a heavy grooving rocker with soaring vocals. It’s a great track among the rest. Dërro has a captivating sound that is in line with excellent bands like Cortez or Sargeant Thunderhoof. I can hear tons of potential for this band because these songs are great.
“Minotaur” is another banger of a track that has a head bobbing and foot tapping groove to it. “Brain Worm” is a great grungy sounding rocker that is amplified. More driving and catchy vocals connected precisely with the music. Dërro are dialed into their own and sound like a band that has been together for decades. Seriously, Halcyon is a very tightly executed display of talent from the band members. “Alone” is nineties grunge in a nutshell, backed with the Layne Staley style singing. The guitar leads are smoking on this track and the riffs are heavy and stomping. The last song is called “Wild”. It’s a funky rocker that is heavy and melodic. It has hook-laden riffs and powerful vocals once again. I am really liking this EP and it gets better with every single listen.
