Electric Citizen – EC4
Electric Citizen is a psychedelic rock band based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Formed in 2012, they have released four full length albums including: 2014’s Sateen, 2016’s Higher Time, 2018’s Helltown, and their latest and debut release for Heavy Psych Sounds, 2025’s EC4. It has been seven years since their last album. The quartet features Laura Dolan on vocals, Ross Dolan on guitar, Nick Vogelpohl on bass and keyboards, and Nate Wagner on drums. EC4 was released on June 27th 2025 and contains nine tracks at forty minutes long.
The acoustic guitar strumming along with the cymbal tapping starts things off, as the first track “Mire” begins. The song has an aural of doom and builds into a nice flow of heavy psych. The seventies influencers are felt with the guitar sounds and striking keyboards that are beautifully played on “Mire”. Laura Dolan has a captivating voice and she shines on tracks like “Static Vision” with her pitch changes and smooth delivery. The music is rocking with bombastic drumming, scorching leads, and heavy rhythmic bass guitar. The third track “Smokey” is another full throttle keyboard rocker with fuzz driven riffs. The heavy spacey sounds and Dolan’s excellent voice is a perfect match. The song has an eighties hard rock galloping rhythm accompanied by tasty keys.
“Traveler’s Moon” is a vintage sounding masterpiece. It has a crisp analog feel to these tracks that hook my listening palette right away. The songs are sonic stories that Electric Citizen are expressing. The slow and low but beautiful tones are displayed on “Tuning Tree”. It has inviting clean guitars and different sounds mixed in. The vocals are divine and lure you right into the song. “Moss” has an alternative vibe mixed with a little new wave but still manages to rock. “Lizard Brain” pounds in next, with a heavy riff that dissipates and then switches back and forth. The music can be retro and psychedelic. Electric Citizen are now four records deep into their career, and they have a sound that is always evolving and progressing. “Other Planets” has an epic flow that are staged with musical transitions and mesmerizing vocalizations, with an abundance of cosmic leads.
The final track on EC4 is called “Flower Of Salt”. It brings back that acoustic guitar sound to settle in the mood for which the song expresses itself. Dolan’s vocals are angelic and powerful and really connects with the melancholy rhythms. All nine of these tracks are interesting and offer great sounds that should resonate with most listeners. I enjoy this record as a wind down at night, for it delivers relaxing soundscapes with majestic tones.
