Florist – Adrift EP

Florist is a stoner/ psychedelic /doom/ space rock band from Tampa, Florida. The lineup consists of Frankie Consoli on lead vocals, guitar, and sitar, Kevin Roy on bass and backing vocals, Mike Amador on drums and backing vocals, and Jer Dillow on theremin, synthesizers, and percussion. They released their debut EP called Contact in 2023. On August 1sr 2025, the band released their latest EP entitled Adrift on Threat Collection Records. It contains six tracks at twenty nine minutes long.

Looking at the album cover and band logo, My first thoughts on the Florist sound would be death or black metal. Doom or sludge would also be good guesses. Ironically , the first song on the record is called “432Hz”, which is the optimal sound frequency for deep relaxation and meditation. There was definitely a big contradictory of extremes happening and I was intrigued and curious on the actual sound of the band. Adrift sounds much more expansive and dense than I imagined and there’s a lot of interesting things happening in their music.

“432Hz” begins with a slow, thick, and heavy distorted bass tone that is exceptional. This is where the fuzzy layers of doom are expressed as the bass and drums begin this enchanted sonic voyage. Swirls of synth and guitars creep into the mix and flow elegantly throughout. The sound has a subtle and distinctive buildup as it progresses into a monolithic riff monument. The instrumental track floats right into “Another Moon” with a hit of the snare drum. The heavy doom style riff starts  off the song as the bass leads the charge when the vocals begin. Frankie Consoli has a pretty smooth sounding delivery with a Pink Floyd vibe. The other band mates provide backing vocals and it all sounds well matched. The music is crushing and devastating. The softer verses kick into a heavy stoner doom riff that just rips. The melodic vocals are the perfect complement to the massive rhythms. Florist craft spacey psych rock that is very interesting. The busy bass lines are so wonderful that it really enhances the music fully. There is a lot of sonic exploration going on with these songs.

“Out Of Space” starts with the low end fuzz that hammers into a driving rock song. It has a catchiness to it in the chorus sung, “sign on” and the chant groove of “we’re out of space!” It’s a terrific song that hits it hard and heavy. The next track “Grow” begins with a cool drum roll into a mammoth riff. The cosmic tones circulate the rhythm and once again, the bass guitar drives the song. I really love the layers of spacey sounds that the band incorporate into their music. It adds blankets of texture to each of these songs and makes them very interesting to listen to. The fifth and six tracks on the record are titled “Adrift (Part A)” and “Adrift (Part B)”. They essentially blend right into each other and could be considered one long song. “Adrift (Part A)” is a mid tempo rocker which reminds me a little of Psychlona. The vocals are similar and the psychedelic twists are reminiscent also. It’s a ripper like all of the songs! The end of the track has a monstrous bass riff that connects both parts together. The slow and doom focus carries on the entire “Adrift (Part B)”. It’s a colossal and epic ending to a remarkable record, from start to finish.

I am really digging this band and album! Florist are fantastic at crafting elaborate music that swims into different directions while keeping the nucleus of the songs intact. The cosmic and heavy psychedelic leanings are fantastic and Adrift is just such an amazing album, through and through.
