Fusskalt – Faceless Man
Fusskalt is a stoner rock band from Skanderborg, Denmark. They have released three EPs, 2012’s Songs For Speedin’ And Crashin’ (Vol.1), 2013’s Songs For Speedin’ And Crashin’ (Vol.2), and 2015’s Overdrive, along with two LP’s, 2018’s Intercooler, and 2025’s Faceless Man. The band consists of Niko on vocals, Nick on rythm guitar, Thomas on lead guitar, Janus on bass, and Jonas on drums. The quintet just released their latest album Faceless Man on June 6th 2025. It contains five tracks at just over thirty minutes long.
The opening track “Fuzz Cult” cranks right out of the gate with an infectious fuzz rocking groove. The swamp driven guitars begins the song as it kicks into the stoner riffs with a powerful voice and the music to match. Fusskalt is delivering a huge statement, with their big distorted guitar sound, fuzz-toned bass, pounding drums, and soaring vocals. They have beautiful melodies too which act as the anchor for the riffalicious tones that are frequently executed. The second track “River Of Gold” is another banger that begins with an excellent bass sounding riff from Janus, accentuated with the guitars, before the drums thunder into the mix. The song starts off a little mellow with Niko’s voice dynamics bringing the fire. The music builds up nicely, displaying some electrifying leads from Thomas also. It has a bluesy and catchy feel with a strong and robust rhythm section carrying out the groove.
“Sirens” blasts next with a trigger click gun shot sound that explodes right into the rhythm. Fusskalt has that classic desert rock essence to their sound and doesn’t reinvent the wheel but crushes it with heavy metal conviction. The siren and samples midway through the song are a great touch just before the scorching leads take effect. The production on this recording is dense and massive! Kent Stump from the band Wo Fat mixed and mastered this and it really elevates the sound quality of these songs substantially. The title track “Faceless Man” is another example of great songwriting matched with top notch sound recording. Every instrument has a beautiful clarity on this record and whether the music is more melodic or crushing with heaviness, it’s a very enjoyable sonic experience. Most of the songs are within the five to seven plus minute range and build up nicely into a dynamic sound throughout.
The fifth and final track on the album is called “Hippielort (The sacrifice I make)”. It’s an excellent closer that has a hard rocking rhythm and ravishing transitions into softer musical structures. The tonal and melodic bass lines are magnificent as are the busy drum fills from Jonas. The heavy and crunchy guitar tones are present on all five tracks and combined with the powerful vocals, Faceless Man is a stunning and remarkable listen. They play stoner rock at a high level and craft some very energetic and memorable songs. The draw to this short album though is that these five songs are well constructed and sound fantastic, making this a very enjoyable listen.
