Fvzz Popvli – Melting Pop

Fvzz Popvli is heavy fuzz/ garage/ psych power trio from Rome, Italy. The band released an EP in 2017 and signed with Heavy Psych Sounds thereafter. They have released 2017’s Fvzz DEI, 2018’s Magna Fvzz, and 2023’s III. The band consists of Francesco Pucci on guitar and lead vocals, Alessandro Petrocelli on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Giorgio Natangeli on drums and backing vocals. Fvzz Popvli just recently released their fourth album called Melting Pop on February 7th 2025. It contains eight tracks and is about thirty minutes long.

“Temple Of Doom” begins the album with a heavy slice of fuzz-laden stoner doom with a peculiar sound. The riffs have a zany twist about them and the sometimes quirky vocals of Francesco Pucci creates a unique blend of sounds. “Telephone” starts with a bluesy rhythm with some desert rock enhancements. The song has a grungy yet psychedelic twist about it. The band has a garage rock foundation with some catchy backing vocals too. The third track “Salty Biscvits” incorporates a bouncy punk rocking groove to the song. It has elements of stoner fuzz and nuances of psychedelic wrapped around a catchy chorus. “Erotik Fvel P.I.M.P” starts with a funky swagger of rhythmic grunge. The guitars begin the song and the band kicks in right after. The music pieces in guitar lead accents and fiery melodies of a hook driven chorus. “Kommando” strikes next with more off-centered singing and a nice warm tone of fuzz. The song is pretty straight forward with a direct rock approach. The scorching guitar leads are a nice touch to the song utilizing stop start fillers.

The sixth song “Ovija” has a slow and doomy Sabbath warping. The verse part is driven by bass and drums and then has elements of heavy fuzz contorted in it. Fvzz Popvli executes some nice psychedelic solos at the end of the track. The next song “Cop Sacher” has an idiosyncratic sound with a funky tone embracing it. It features an excellent saxophone passage from Sebastiano Forti on the end of it which is very unique and interesting. The final song “The Knight” is another bizarre number. It has overlays of twisted fuzz and psych effects packaged around phase guitar sounds. It has an unrushed and sedative tone and feel about it. Fvzz Popvli is definitely a fascinating and riveting band. Melting Pop has its own distinct and entrancing sound that captures heavy fuzz and grunge tones embedded into a psychedelic garage and indie rock type of music. The more I hear this album, the better it gets, allowing me to immerse myself in it. Fvzz Popvli marches the beat of their own drum and has created a captivating recording that I can truly appreciate.
