I Am Low – Inertia EP

I Am Low is a stoner rock power trio based in Umeå, Sweden. The band consists of Kristoffer Norgren on guitar and vocals, Anton Höög on bass, and Oskar Melander on drums and backing vocals. The fuzz rockers deliver a mixture of heavy riffs and melodious songwriting. They have albums dating back over a decade, starting with 2014’s Self Titled, 2016’s Another Radio Frequency and Cluttered EP, 2019’s Dead Beats, 2020’s Illusions EP, 2023’s Úma, and their latest, 2025’s Inertia EP. This is my very first exposure to I Am Low and I’m really blown away. These four songs are fantastic! The band has a very cool and interesting sound that is classic desert rock, only perfected in Sweden. Majestic Mountain Records has intelligently taken upon themselves to get involved with this exceptional band. Inertia was released on July 25th 2005.

“Sweet M16” is a banger, right out of the gate! The raw and fuzzy guitars are oozing with distortion with a mid-paced rocking groove. The vocals are excellent and melodic. They sound very inviting with the dense tones produced from this riff rocking machine. The explosive guitar leads are on point with this first track. The second song “Greed” is one of my favorites so far. It kicks in with a stomping chugging riff and then mellows when the vocals enter. The dynamics are great and when the distortion kicks on, it is more felt than heard. The vocal melodies are wonderful and go along perfectly with the music. The electrifying sounds howling out of the instruments are delightful and invigorating.

The third track “Waves” is a stoner rocker’s salvation. The grungy rhythms and smooth vocal delivery are what makes this so amazing. I Am Low are not playing around when it comes to delivering an all-out ass kicking record. The sludge heavy doom riff on the title track “Inertia” is a thrasher. They balance it off with a melodic passage of clean guitars but keep striking it hard with the rock. Inertia is an amazing twenty minutes of sonic enjoyment. The transitions between heavy and light are intense and interesting. Based on these four tracks, this band could produce an album of the year contender with more of these high caliber and quality songs. Hell, they are half way there! This music is a great example of the high quality sounds that bands are producing nowadays. I Am Low are certainly doing it correctly because these four songs will absolutely rock your socks off and blow your mind.
