Kentucky Green – Mammoth
Kentucky Green is a heavy stoner blues rock band from Brisbane, Australia. Formed in 2019, the trio combine southern fried doom with de-tuned heavy blues. They have three full length albums including their debut, 2020’s Galactic Acid, 2022’s Creatures Of Bad Habits, and their latest, 2025’s Mammoth. Mammoth was released on May 28th 2025 and contains six tracks in thirty four minutes.
“Waterfront” kicks things off with an excellent heavy rocking rhythm. The fuzzy guitar riff begins the song as heavy drums commence with a groove solid beat. The vocals sound good and fit right in with the Kentucky Green hard rocking riff machine. The band has a splendid ability to write a damn good rock song. There’s nothing fancy about their approach, just excellent riffs and rocking rhythms that get the foot tapping and head bobbing. “Caravan” delivers the goods in full swing with the infectious grooves and good vocals to match. It’s done with great execution and consistency throughout all of the six tracks on Mammoth. Kentucky Green has a ripe blues approach in these songs that you can’t help but admire. The third track is called “Metal Skin” and it rips! The guitars blaze with the undeniable rocking drums that keeps the song a flowing. The riffs are simplistic but that’s all part of the charm. The bluesy leads ignite the song in grand fashion locked in with the cool approach singing.
“Trust Me” is yet another glorious rocker that expresses the fuzzy guitar tones with great bombastic drumming. They have great song writing and a hard rocking execution throughout. The fifth track, entitled “Living Beyond” begins a little slower and then builds up into a killer rhythm of groove. Kentucky Green are dialed in on this one. The simple drum beats and flavors of bluesy rhythms are top notch. The band delivers some scorching guitar leads that further enhance the sound of this amazing Aussie trio. It’s just plain good fun hearing these songs. The last track is called “None So Blind” and it’s the longest cut on the record. Clocking in at just under eight minutes, it’s another fantastic rocker! The solidarity of these songs are remarkable. The band never misses a beat and keeps things uncomplicated and straightforward. I love the restraint that Kentucky Green commands and they are simply writing catchy and memorable tunes that sound great, period. The leads are electrifying and expressive but not flashy at all. It really makes the music breathe and delivers a rocking wallop to each song. Mammoth is a great album and Kentucky Green are an excellent band. I look forward to hearing more from them and will be diving into their music catalog.
