Lord Elephant – Ultra Soul

Lord Elephant is a three-piece instrumental heavy psychedelic stoner doom band from Florence, Italy. The power trio consists of Leandro Gaccione on guitar, Eduardo De Nardi on bass, and Tommaso Urzino on drums. They released their debut album, 2022’s Cosmic Awakening, and 2023’s Doom Sessions Vol.8 (Split with Oreyeon) on Heavy Psych Sounds. They just released their sophomore album called Ultra Soul on January 30th 2026, also on Heavy Psych Sounds. It contains seven tracks at forty eight minutes long.

There are times that I prefer heavy instrumental riff rock music, where I can let the sounds take me on a mind expanding journey. The music can be a guide that allows my thoughts to drift and transcend me into a deeper headspace. Lord Elephant is that type of band and when “Electric Dunes” fades in with the psychedelic jamming, it’s a mental vortex that I have grown very fond of experiencing. Spaced out, atmospheric, and tribal percussion with airy tones glide nicely as the song blends right into the more riff-centric push of “Gigantia”. Fuzzed-out rhythms and musical pummeling carry the track down the stoner rock highway. Lord Elephant is keen on shifting gears mid way through allowing the song to ebb and flow nicely with sonically moving dimensions. Heavy distortion and striking melodies are flawlessly executed creating a perfect concoction of wavering styles.

The third track “Smoke Tower” begins mellow and bulldozes crushing doom across the heavy terrain of bluesy psychedelia. Intense and interesting tones encapsulates throughout the song, cascading into a mountain of majestic harmony. “Black River Blues” is a continuation of dense riffs and flowing segments of guitar wizardry. From ginormous riffs to atmospheric meanderings, Lord Elephant has the fluidity to accomplish both in a seamless arrangement. Dicing heavy bombastic blues with an elegance of fuzzy bass growls, the music is always moving and grooving in such a flawless manner throughout. The heavy chugging accents at the end of the song are a perfect complement to the sonic arsenal of the composition.

“Astral Crypt” is another riffalicious medley of stomp grooving rhythms and deep cosmic crescendos. Splicing in bluesy guitar leads and pulsating melodies, the song is a mind blowing combination of audio fascination. The band has their sound dialed in and the combination of ethereal tones and heavy riff rocking rhythms are enthralling. The fuzzy bass lines and thunderous drumming gels brilliantly with the varied guitar sounds. “MindNight” is an enchanting passage of arraying tones and  massive doom riffs. Beginning with a rumbling bass sound, the song builds into a powerful avalanche of brooding doom.

The seventh and final track on Ultra Soul is called “Leave This World With Me”. The song floats right in from where “MindNight” ends and features some tasty leads coloring the meaty riffing. It is a masterful closer that slithers with chunky rhythms and dreamy soundscapes of aerial expressions. Lord Elephant has a magnificent sense of musical dynamics that really makes for a captivating and introspective listening experience.
