OOGWEI – Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, Twisted And Vile

OOGWEI is a heavy psychedelic/ cosmic/stoner/ doom trio from Austin, Texas. They consist of King Perez Cude on guitar, vocals, and delay, Oscar Morales on bass, and fuzz, and Jack Strüb on drums. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, Twisted And Vile is the band’s debut album that was released on February 7th 2026. It contains nine tracks and is over an hour long.

Aside from the bizarre band name, and very descriptive album title, OOGWEI is a heavy and eccentric three-piece that has a very interesting and captivating sound. Upon my first listen, I knew there was something special and unique about this band that drew me right into their music. “Contact High” is a forty seven second intro sampling of static voices and cool percussion. It blends right into, the first part of the album title with the track, “Extremely Wicked”. It’s a wild and head tripping song that is heavy and spacey. Fuzz driven riffs with psychedelic swirling, the music is enthralling and grabs your attention right away. The band has an eclectic storm of sounds that create this cosmic rocking enchantment of ambience. Incorporating noise rocking and atmospheric tones, OOGWEI is freaking unconventional and sonically interesting. “The Adjuster” is equally diabolical and industrial sounding. The visceral emotion of the vocals and anguished delivery in soothing shouts is uncompromising. The densely fuzzed-out bass guitar has the reigns on the rhythm section. The guitar sound is dirty and noisy with the drums in their syncopated swing beatings. Everything is twisted in a Pink Floyd, Godflesh, Alice Cooper sort of way. The tones are haunting and hypnotic and I can’t seem to be able to get enough of it!

The next track called “Wasteland” is an epic ten minute monologue of musical mayhem. The heavy Sabbath-y riffs are drenched in fuzz and swirls of psychedelic sounds and effects. It’s quite remarkable on how much space that only three guys can fill and produce. They create such transcending and cosmic tones that will send you to another galaxy. Plenty of wah guitars on “Wasteland” and the flow of the passage is remarkable. The echo style vocals adds another dimension to an already peculiar and idiosyncratic song. OOGWEI definitely has a sound of their own and I can’t help but think there is an underlying theme and deep meaning behind this album. The title of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, Twisted And Vile has a pretty direct meaning to where OOGWEI chooses to go with these songs.

The song “Tremble” is a groove rocking eruption of fuzzy wah pedaling. It’s a massive track in sound and in feeling and proceeds the noise fury of “Shockingly Evil”. Another title piece, “Shockingly Evil” is a mesmerizing piece of cerebral annihilation. OOGWEI are in deep space of psychedelic jamming with this one. I am really starting to wonder how many drugs is the hero dose for this music. But for me, the music itself is a psychoactive substance that sends me on a spiritual high.

“The Staff Of Creation/ Slow Burner” is another acid tripping track of heavy psychedelic blues rocking jams through the forest of psilocybin. Over twelve meditative minutes into a complete spiritual and sonic meltdown. Cathartic and schizophrenic tones of psychotic uncertainty. This song alone could send you in the nut house or climbing the tree of life. They even have a song named after the band called “OOGWEI”. It’s another scorcher of blazing psychedelic acid-blues doused in highly flammable noise rock. This band is amazing!

The final piece on this album is called “Twisted And Vile”. An excellent closing ceremony of hazy psychedelic rock with a heavy driving bass and smooth vocals. The song is another musical monumental song that encapsulates everything dark and beautiful about OOGWEI. The song completes the end segment for the title, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, Twisted And Vile. This is the type of band that I could get totally lost in and lose a whole month of my life to. There is so much embedded into their sound that mega doses are required to even begin to understand what is happening in these nine tracks.
