Prophets Of Thwaites – Vulnerant Omnes, Ultima Necat EP
Prophets Of Thwaites are a three-piece heavy psychedelic/ atmospheric doom band from Groningen, Netherlands. Consisting of Esma Larabi on guitar and vocals, Nico Beemster on drums, and Ferry Vermeeren on bass, the band formed in 2024. They released two singles called “Tharlab” and “I Am The Winds” in August of 2025. The name Prophets Of Thwaites came from the collapse of the Thwaites glacier (a symbol of irreversible change). The band just self released their new EP called Vulnerant Omnes Ultima Necat on March 17th 2026. It contains two tracks at thirteen minutes long.
Prophets Of Thwaites incorporate a heavy doom metal sound with heavy psych and swirls of atmospheric mixed in. The EP opens with “A Deadlock”, a crushing and heavy battering of crunchy metal riffs and high register female vocals. Esma Larabi’s voice is equally angelic and diabolical and works very well with the band’s devastating riffs and rhythms. Her guitar tone is brutal, incorporating a classic doom assault with shredding leads. The heavy rhythm section of bassist Ferry Vermeeren and drummer Nico Beemster provide the perfect tapestry for the riffs to melt your face off. “A Deadlock” begins with the sounds of wind that crank into the guitars ripping ahead. The trebly tone of the bass counter acts the fuzz from the guitars. Along with the pounding drumming, they create a wall of sludgy distortion. The track stays fairly slow and heavy with the vocals mesmerizing the flow. However, around the 4:20 mark, the song breaks into a mid tempo rhythm that splices in some killer guitar leads. The transitions of riffs and tempos are nicely executed.
The second and final song on the record is the title track “Vulnerant Omnes Ultima Necat”. The metallic opening riff is enhanced by accents and fiery leads, before scaling back into an eerie tone. The ethereal vocals match the vibe of the song and carry a haunting bleakness to them. The music drives in some chuggy riffs and harmonic solos in between the verses. It adds a touch of atmospheric noise to the track giving it a more intriguing and introspective lure. Prophets of Thwaites have constructed a darkly divine sound with the Vulnerant Omnes Ultima Necat EP. It will be interesting to hear where the band will evolve to next but based on these two tracks, I can only imagine great things are on the horizon for them.
