REDWOOD – Time To Lose

REDWOOD, the heavy psychedelic/ stoner rock band from California, are back with another new album! Sheafer McOmber from the band Deer Lord just released his last record three months ago, 2025’s Red Colony (review here). Eight months before that, 2025’s Sky Offering (review here) saw the light of day. McOmber is a one man operation and a very talented musician and engineer. His other REDWOOD releases includes two EPs, 2022’s Redwood EP and 2024’s Dry Rivers. Time To Lose came out on January 30th 2026 and contains eight tracks at forty five minutes long. It was also released on his Northern Buffalo Productions label.

I was very surprised to see a new REDWOOD album released a few months out from the last one. Sheafer McOmber is a songwriting machine and his ideas and creativity are very impressive to hear. “Wormhole” begins the album with a swirling buildup leading into a crushing doom hammering riff. The layered vocals of McOmber fit nicely into the mix of spacey psychedelia overlaying the song. He rips out some excellent guitar leads too which further enhances the song. The second track called “Congregation” hits hard and direct expressing fuzzy rhythms and catchy choruses. The bouncy rhythms are enticing and allows McOmber to splay more tasty leads over the music.

“King Bid” has a cool rocking groove to it and keeps the REDWOOD driving force prominent and consistent. However, the next track called “Highway Is My Way” is a full throttle Motörhead meets hardcore banger that is great! It has a stomping groove midway through that returns back to the rocking pummeling of the start. The title track “Time To Lose” floats back to the more traditional REDWOOD tones, flavoring the heavy psych into the mix. The song kicks into a slow bashing of doom style riffing and fiery leads.

The sixth track entitled “Contact” begins with a nice and simple drum beat that connects with the guitars, enabling a heavy dose of fuzzy tones. When the vocals enter, the music dials down into a slow and doomy ensemble of heaviness. The songs on Time To Lose are edgier than the previous releases. There is less cosmic meandering and synth overall, compared with last year’s releases. It still sounds very much like REDWOOD but with a more primal bite to the songs. “Titan” however, relays back to the more spaced out origins and layers the full synthesizer approach, toning down the heaviness in favor of the cosmic overtures of Sky Offering and Cloud Colony phases. The song is more of an instrumental interlude to the final track.

The almost twelve minute closer called “Blue Mass” is a great mixture of all of the REDWOOD styles wrapped into this one epic finale. It has the heavy doom riffs, blankets of psych, scorching guitar leads, pounding percussion, and spacey vocals tying it all together. The music stays relatively slow and heavy throughout and connects nicely with the cosmic groove that Sheafer is dishing out. The song is a flowing and powerful piece that takes the listener on a spiritual journey through sonic waves and spacial awareness. Time To Lose is another fantastic arrangement of songs that further takes the REDWOOD sound into new and uncharted territory.
