Soul Blind – Red Sky Mourning

Soul Blind is a heavy rocking four-piece band from the Hudson Valley in New York. They consist of Cen on bass and vocals, Justin Sarica on guitar, Finn Lovell on guitar, and Steve Hurley on drums. They formed in 2018 and have released: 2018’s Willpower EP, 2018’s Untitled EP, 2019’s Promo 19 EP, 2021’s Third Chain EP, 2022’s Feel It All Around debut album, and their latest, 2025’s Red Sky Mourning. The band play a blend of heavy rock, grunge, and post-hardcore/ metal. Red Sky Mourning contains ten tracks at thirty four minutes long and was released on October 10th 2025.

“Business Or Pleasure” starts with a quick sample that kicks right into a hard rocking groove. The vocals remind me of Alice In Chains with the melodies and hooks. The riffs are crunchy and metallic and scorch some noise rock elements in there also. “Dyno” lays these foundations out nicely and Soul Blind delivers some powerful leads into the mix too. “Hide Your Evil” crushes into some stomp heavy grooves spliced with softer melodies. The combination is appealing as the flow of the song carries out a good mix of both styles, which work great together. “Mistake To Wonder” accentuates this notion also with the ethereal tones igniting a grunge rock feel and vibe.

The fifth track called “Billy” is an eruption of Stompbox meets Helmet pummeling. The vocals are shouty on the verses with the noise rocking guitars taking form. The chugging riffs and powerful melodies are in full force on this track. The drums and distorted bass start of “For Real” kicks into the main riff and has a strong industrial sounding theme happening. All the songs are fairly straightforward in length, averaging around three to four minutes each. “Thru The Haze” is a little more melodic in an alternative sort of way with the vocals but it still rocks. As for the title track, “Red Sky Mourning” builds upon these melodies and darkens them up a bit.

“New York Smoke” is a raging track that mixes in slamming rhythms with monolithic grooves and gleaming melodies. The last song entitled “Closer To You” finishes off this album with an alternative and esoteric composition. The track exhibits some Quicksand post hardcore tones fused with some nineties style Seattle grunge. Soul Blind has a sound that would suit well with fuzzy riff rock enthusiasts and heavy groove metal fans simultaneously. Red Sky Mourning is a great album and a solid introduction into what the Soul Blind sound is all about.
