Suncraft – Welcome To The Coven
Suncraft are a five-piece band from Oslo, Norway. Playing a heavy octane of hard driving rock, the band mixes in an array of different styles into their sound. Their debut album, Flat Earth Rider was released in 2021. They just put out their sophomore album called Welcome To The Coven on November 21st 2025. Suncraft consists of Rasmus Skage Jensen on vocals and bass, Tobias Paulsen on drums, Vebjørn Rindal Krogstad on guitars, Sigurd Grøtan on guitars, and Jens Henrik Kverndal on guitars. Welcome To The Coven contains eight tracks at forty minutes long.
Labeling a band like Suncraft stoner rock doesn’t even begin to describe what crushing tones these Norwegian’s are unleashing. With a recent re-emergence of my old grindcore/sludge band, blast beats are back in my life again. When “Ragebait” kicks in, it has everything covered, from hardcore and punk angst fueled with heavy metallic rhythms, and blast beats too. The hard and aggressive music is matched with angry vocals that can be melodic too. There is a charming catchiness to Suncraft’s massive grooves as the musical styles can change in an instance. The band breaks into some stunning black metal blast beat rhythms with tremolo picking and everything, midway through. The drummer is incredible! The dense guitars are brutal and “Ragebait” is the appropriate opener that expresses the sonic beat down that is happening.
The second track “Love’s Underrated” has a very memorable hook-driven melody that will surely be stuck in your head. The catchy chorus and bouncy rhythms are backed with some great clean singing vocals. More glorious blasts of black metal are incorporated and pop melodies too. The band are flawless in their execution of changing riffs into completely different styles without warning. Musically speaking, they are very tight and precise. The third track entitled “Greed Battalion” is another banger! Carrying out a Slomosa-esc sound in the chorus melodies, this song is fantastic. The triple guitar attack adds a thick layer of fuzz to their sound, but not overly excessive either.
The title track “Welcome To The Coven” is a great example of the guitar synergy between each one. The song has some atmospheric elements in the background too and just pummels ahead with hardcore conviction. The more metal and thrash influences are surfacing with this track and the flow and build-ups are magnificent. “Wizards Of The Anger Magic” returns to the catchy pop-punk but injects it with caffeine and fuzz. It’s a fun and energetic rocking song that keeps the band on pace with the awesome sound they’re delivering.
“Charlatan Killer” begins with a pounding drum beat and haunting guitars. The song takes the band into a new sonic direction into the dark progressive world of sound. It’s ever so riffalicious with orchestrated accents layered in there. The guitar leads are obnoxious and astounding! Suncraft really opens up their musical talents and creativity with a song like “Charlatan Killer”. The next one, “High On Silence” has an interesting and rhythmic flow about it. The catchy vocal harmonies are nice additions to accentuate the electrifying guitars and rock solid rhythm section.
The eighth and final track is called “Forgotten Godess”. It kicks right in with a rocking groove and uptempo glide. The repertoire of musical styles that Suncraft exhibit on Welcome To The Coven is impressive. Each song has a unique but distinct tone that really appeals to me. I am most critical to harsh vocals but these guys are fantastic! The blending with clean vocals is exceptional and never out of place. Every track on this album is terrific! Each one offers a subtle touch of depth and mystery and really brings out a remarkable finished product.
