Temple Fang – Lifted From The Wind

Temple Fang is a heavy psychedelic rock band from Amsterdam, Netherlands. The quartet features Dennis Duijnhouwer on vocals, bass, and synth, Jevin de Groot on vocals, guitar, and percussion, Ivy van der Veer on guitar, and vocals, and Daan Wopereis on drums and vocals. The band has two full length albums, their debut 2021’s Fang Temple, and their latest 2025’s Lifted From The Wind. They also have a slew of live albums too and 2022’s Jerusalem/The Bridge EP. Temple Fang released 2025’s The River EP before the sophomore album came out. Lifted From The Wind was released on April 25th 2025 on Stickman Records. It contains five tracks and is an hour and fifteen minutes long.

Temple Fang create some elaborate and interesting sounds that draws you into an immersive musical experience. The opening track “The River” takes the listener on an expansive journey through progressive and psychedelic rock. The eighteen minute opener guides you through different layers of sounds that build upon each note produced. Beginning with cymbal splashes and synth, the music slowly progresses into an almost improvised sounding composition. The jazz like drumming and cosmic tones are felt, rather than just heard. The vocals coalesce nicely with the music throughout the duration of Lifted From The Wind. The guitar playing is phenomenal on this album, utilizing both clean, with precise passages and electrifying leads and melodies. The band tells stories and sets different moods with these songs. “The River” and the twenty one minute successor called “Once” are musically fulfilling tracks that ebb and flow with beautiful dynamics. The latter begins with percussion taps that taper into psychedelic guitar enhancements, emerging into serpentine tones. Temple Fang has an arousing flair for sonic escalation with their music. Capturing the audio blue print of bands like Pink Floyd and Vangelis, they are wizards in song crafting.

The third track “Harvest Angel”, is another powerful and intriguing piece of musical art. Temple Fang are sound focused on their style and deliver an amazing structure of psychedelic infused rock with a plethora of prog. Each song is elaborate and unique but gels nicely with the vibe of this record. The most direct song that they have is called “The Radiant”. Being the shortest track on the album at over seven minutes, it’s still executed perfectly. It’s has a catchy vocal melody that blends nicely with the swing rhythm and groove of the song. The fifth and final track is called “Josephine”. It’s another amazing song that starts with a very lush and mellow beginning. Temple Fang are talented musicians who craft some of the most detailed and intricate music today.

Admittedly, Lifted From The Wind didn’t initially grab me upon the first few listens. However, like every great recording, the songs developed and heightened with each exposure until they latched on firmly. The length of the album might deter some people from truly appreciating it. If you allow it to evolve and sink in then you will eventually be taken over with the brilliance of Temple Fang.
