The Kryss Talmeth Experience – When The Wheels Fall Off
The Kryss Talmeth Experience are a power trio based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They play a dynamic blend of stoner/ blues/ and psychedelic rock. The lineup features Craig Carnegie on guitar, vocals, and percussion, Mark Quinn on bass, and Matt Curtis on drums. The band released their debut album in 2019 entitled, Buy The Ticket Take The Ride. On December 6th, 2024, they released their sophomore album, When The Wheels Fall Off on Kozmik Artifactz. The album features seven tracks in forty eight minutes.
“Jump Into The River” starts the record with a grand entrance of riff-centric blues rock. The music has a nice swaggering groove about it with fuzzy guitars, busy bass lines, and swinging drum patterns. The three piece has an infectious and intoxicating essence with their distinctive sound. Heavy driving riff rock where each instrument has its own voice. Mark Quinn’s lead bass waltzing is especially cool and compliments Craig Carnegie’s fiery guitar riffs and scorching leads nicely. Matt Curtis keeps everything together with his solid drumming throughout the song. Quinn’s vocals has a soulful drawl to them that reminds me a little of Dan Soren from Sixty Watt Shaman. “Jump Into The River” is a great lead off track that shows the band’s heavy blues rock component. The next song “Media Content” has a slow and driving rhythm to start, that up-tempos a bit and then returns. It has a Sabbath riffing essence about it and brings in some tasty guitar leads too. The overall feel to this track is more doom laden from the opener.
The title track “When The Wheels Fall Off” is next. It’s has a nice fuzz rocking groove to it and a hard metal vibe also. Chugging guitar riffs with straight forward rhythms are the delicacies for this one. However, after the guitar solo, the band drops into an airy psychedelic interplay of guitar and bass with Carnegie’s soulful voice and synth layered sounds. The song kicks back into the heavy rock groove to finish off the track. The fourth cut, “Gentleman’s Surprise” is a jamming psychedelic bluesy instrumental. Spiked with a prominent bass shuffling and wah guitar shredding, the solid drumming and tribal percussion are the backbone for the rhythm to express itself. A very strong and powerful piece of music indeed.
“Jamie’s Revenge” begins with flange guitar and ensembles into a killer riff. The song encapsulates elements of stoner rock and heavy blues with a catchy sonic fusion of blissful guitar leads. The next song “Pleasure Monkey” is a mid tempo explosion of rock electricity. It’s got a nice catchy vibe going on with the riffs and vocal style. The straight forward rocker then diverges into the closing number, “Rough Guide To Tripping Through The Desert”. The fourteen and a half minute anthem starts with clean guitars and a brief sample. The swampy riffs ignite more Sabbath like influences with a bluesy flourishing and nebulous leads. The tribal and psychedelic elements return on this track, leading way to a mind altering journey. Spoken vocals of transcendence and a congo seance emerges. The song undergoes a trippy elegance of heady sounds with tumultuous leads and heavy bass resonance. The track drifts out into a delirious atmosphere of ambiance as it reluctantly fades to a close.
The Kryss Talmeth Experience is a very impressive band that really surprised me with their music. Being a new listener to the band, I thoroughly enjoy When The Wheels Fall Off. I’m happy I discovered this and look forward to hearing more from them. The underground music scene is really thriving and this is a prime example of the quality of artistry that exists in the heavy rock universe today.
