Top 5 On Friday – Ripple Music: 5 Favorite Albums From 2024

This week I am going to rank my five favorite 2024 albums from Ripple Music. So far, I covered my favorites from Blues Funeral (here), Heavy Psych Sounds (here), and Magnetic Eye (here). Ripple Music is an incredible label that pumps out so many good releases each year. It was very difficult to narrow it down because I have enjoyed so much that this label has produced this past year.

5. CURSE THE SON – DELIRIUM

Connecticut’s Curse The Son released a fantastic album this year on September 6th 2024. The band play a heavy stoner doom style influenced by Black Sabbath, Witchfinder General, and old Pentagram. I have been a fan of theirs for several years now and I believe that Delirium (review here) is the band’s finest work so far. I was fortunate enough to see them live this past November opening for the awesome Cortez (review here). They sounded amazing live and really delivered a heavy and crushing performance.

4. 10,000 YEARS – ALL IS QUIET ON THE FINAL FRONTIER

Sweden’s 10,000 Years also released their best material so far (in my opinion) this past year. The album dropped on November 22nd 2024, and it’s the band’s first record released on Ripple Music. Their sound is a more metal based stoner rock style with devastating riffs and heavy pounding drumming. All Quiet On The Final Frontier (review here) has a cool psychedelic vibe with phase guitars and a unique vocal delivery also. This album could have easily landed on my top twenty of the year but I didn’t listen to it enough until after my list was finished.

3. TEMPLE OF THE FUZZ WITCH – APOTHEOSIS

Detroit, Michigan’s Temple Of The Fuzz Witch made a huge impact on me after listening to Apotheosis (review here). For being my first time hearing this band, I was blown away with their sound. They play a mix of sludge, stoner, and doom, with hints of black metal too. I was fortunate to see the band play live (review here) shortly after hearing this album and witnessed the true power of some of these songs. They really amplified their sound on this release compared with their past records. I look forward to hearing where they will go next in regard to their music

2. LUNA SOL – VITA MORS

Luna Sol from Colorado deliver the high desert blues in heavy rocking fashion. I was super impressed with their sound and was pleased to find out that the guitarist/ vocalist is David Angstrom from Hermano. Vita Sol (review here) is an excellent album that I have listened to many times since it was released on September 20th 2024.

1. CORTEZ – THIEVES AND CHARLATANS

Boston’s Cortez returned with an exceptional album in Thieves And Charlatans (review here). The album was released on October 18th 2024 and has the perfect balance of stoner rock and heavy metal. The more I listened to this record, the greater my appreciation for it increased. Watching the band perform Thieves And Charlatans in its entirety (review here) was a total delight. It enhanced my love for the album and made me want to listen to it again and again. It’s definitely my favorite from Cortez and it was number eight on my top twenty favorite albums of the year.
