Ultra Death Cult – End Times Are Good Times EP

The Ultra Death Cult is a heavy stoner rock/ metal band from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. They currently consist of Chris Taylor on guitar and vocals, Chad on drums, and Mindie on bass.  They released their debut three song EP entitled End Times Are Good Times, on January 4th 2025. Chris played the bass on this recording along with all the guitars and vocals.

Ultra Death Cult has a really cool sound that incorporates heavy stoner grooves, doom, and chunky monolithic riffing with some cool melodies. The opening track, “All Eyes On Our Blight” sludges ahead with excellent fuzz driven rhythms. The music is hard hitting and chugs along nicely with hard pounding drumming to accommodate the heavy riffing. It incorporates some nice segments of rhythmic melodies too which flows nicely with the more fuzzy riffage. The vocals have an aggressive edge to their delivery. The song is about five and a half minutes long and is a great opening track to introduce us to the band’s sound. “Long Time” hits like a sledgehammer with the beat down riffing from the start. Ultra Death Cult has a very strong riff gliding essence that keeps the heavy groove rolling throughout each song. “Long Time” has a cool psychedelic pathway midway through the track that has an eerie tone utilizing feedback and cleaner sounding guitars. They strike back into a mix of dominant riffing, atmospheric tones and ambient tinges towards the end of the song.

The third and final track on the EP is called “Not For Nothing”. It has a brutal dense fuzz ripping sound that kills! The vocals are almost old school Hetfield-esc with the tonal gruff and works great with the demolishing riffs. There’s a massive doom and sludge element derived on these tracks that really bleeds aggression in their execution. There’s something so satisfying and interesting about all three of these tracks that really appeals to me. I can’t wait to hear more music from Ultra Death Cult. They really lay down the savage riffing with just the right amount of melodic variance to piece each song together brilliantly. They definitely have a metallic crosscurrent to each track and deliver a thrashing wallop in all three cuts. End Times Are Good Times is a grandiose EP that shows a ton of potential and promise for what the band will achieve next.
