Wolftooth – Wizard’s Light

Wolftooth is a stoner/ heavy metal band from Richmond, Indiana. The midwestern quartet features Chris Sullivan on vocals and guitar, Jeff Cole on guitar,Terry McDaniel on bass, and Casey Wainwright on drums. They have released 2018’s Self Titled, 2020’s Valhalla, 2021’s Blood & Iron, and their latest, 2025’sWizard’s Light. The band has a classic heavy metal sound that incorporates NWOBHM with stoner and doom elements. Wizard’s Light was released on November 21st via Ripple Music. It contains ten tracks at forty five minutes long.

“Hymn Of Belgarath (Intro)” begins Wizard’s Light with a fantasy style intro that lasts about forty eight seconds. “Sightless Archer” pounds into action with a pummeling of heavy riffs and hammering drums. It reminds me of The Sword but with an old school metal and thrashing tone built in. The vocals are in the high register variance with great melodies and range. The heavy riffing verses are leveled off with a chorded and catchy choruses. Wolftooth scores in the chuggy rhythms and delivers some great guitar leads too. “Darkened Path” kicks in with some accents and carries along with some great guitar harmonies and powerful vocals. The traditional metal attack is a trademark quality of Wolftooth and it’s pretty damn refreshing to hear too.

The fourth song is the title track called “Wizard’s Light”. This is probably my favorite song on the album, as it has a rocking and catchy theme going on throughout. The music is dazzling with electrifying guitar leads and heavy, head bobbing riffs. The vocals of Chris Sullivan are so on point with this song and it brings me back to the classic 80’s of heavy metal. The next couple of tracks, “Sands Of Redemption” and “Eternal Hunt” cranks up the fury and vitality of when hard rock and heavy metal music was pure, organic, and actually sounded good. The fiery leads and crunchy rhythms are performed with razor precision. Wolftooth even utilizes chant backing vocals in the song “Armor Of Steel”. The epic metal sound is so nostalgic but the songs have a youthfulness about them and carry their own with confidence and conviction.

“War Brigade” is a banger that has some tasty rhythms and great vocals too. The heavy riffage and powerful singing are so warm and inviting that it should appeal to any metal head or hard rocker. “Bloodline” gallops along with excellent harmonies and vintage metal riffing and melodious guitar solos. Wizard’s Light has been a full on immersion into classic metal and hard rock. The final number, “All Father” is an exuberant and animated song that finishes off the record on a high note. The track actually fades out but the gigantic display of guitar harmonies and big vocal hooks, really locks in with the listener. Wolftooth are on a steady climb and Wizard’s Light could be the record to elevate the band to the next level.
