Woodhawk – Love Finds A Way

Woodhawk is a power trio from Calgary, Alberta in Canada. Formed in 2013, the band play a blend of heavy stoner rock with plenty of melody. They have released a Self Titled EP in 2014, and have three full length albums to date including: 2017’s Beyond The Sun, 2019’s Violent Nature, and 2025’s Love Finds A Way. The lineup consists of Kevin Nelson on drums, Turner Midzain on vocals and guitars, and Mike Badmington on bass and vocals. Love Finds A Way was released on June 6th 2025, on Grand Hand Records. It contains nine tracks in fifty two minutes.

“Grave Shaker” begins the record with a heavy and crunchy metallic groove. It has a classic heavy metal and rock appeal that is executed perfectly. The music has a hard rocking drive with excellent leads and harmonies. Turner Midzain’s soaring vocals are the rage and really propels these songs to sound so expansive. The catchy chorus and vocal melodies are unmistakable and really augments all of these songs. “Strangers Ever After” is a banger of hard rocking fury. It has a powerful rhythm of fuzzy riffs and fierce leads. The foot tapping tune expands on Midzain’s powerful voice box and rips all the way through. The third track called “Truth Be Told “ captures Woodhawk diverging into more elaborate melodies and slower buildups. The song really showcases the singing prowess of Midzain and is musically constructed to develop into a stellar heavy rock song. The layers of keyboards work nicely on this track and the rest of the album too. Love Finds A Way has a top notch recording sound quality. “White Crosses” has a laid back mellow start that progresses into a heavier rhythm. “The Unholy Hand” and “No Place For Hate” are both solid songs that derive the heavy groove, melody, and dynamics that make Woodhawk so compelling.

The title track “Love Finds A Way” has a power metal vibe embedded with some classic rock. It’s another great song on the album that has fluid transitions and nice hard rocking rhythms. “Relapser” is a straight ahead crusader of the rock. A heavy but hook-laden tune that pulls no punches and drives ahead steadily throughout. The closing number is called “Killing Time”. Being the longest song on the album at eight and a half minutes, it’s a magnificent composition. Beginning with divine acoustic guitar playing, the song stays on the softer side and brings a new dimension of sound to us from the band. Woodhawk takes us on an expressive and emotional journey with “Killing Time”. The heavy lyrics are suited for the exceptional music, with this song especially. Love Finds A Way is a ravishing and excellent album from start to finish. The three-piece band joins a list of fantastic bands emerging from the Great White North. Woodhawk are in the top tier of quality for hard rock bands from Canada.
