Demons My Friends – Survive/ Yourself

Demons My Friends is a heavy rock/ post-punk/ stoner doom band from Mexico. The trio consists of Lu Salinas on bass and vocals, Tarro Martinez on drums, and Pablo Anton on guitar and vocals. They released their debut album, Demons Seem To Gather in 2023. They just recently launched their latest sophomore album, entitled Survive/ Yourself on April 17th 2026, via Ripple Music. It contains eight tracks at forty three minutes long.

The really cool thing about the band Demons My Friends is that their sound morphs as Survive/ Yourself plays through from the beginning. “The Theory Of Change” is a nice classic stoner/ desert rock song through and through. The mellow and clean guitar parts are joined with the riff rocking tones and some classic metal and doom thrown in. The smooth vocals tie this song together rather nicely. The second track, “Last Dance” has a unique new wave and gothic entanglement with heavy rock melodies. The band has a strong variance in musical style only two songs in, which is a very interesting allure about Demons My Friends. Classic heavy metal and operatic theater join in to churn the big melting pot of different sounds.

The third track “Star Child” begins with a thick and heavy bass riff that is the backbone for the whole song. Melodious vocals and dynamic rhythms score big for this track. The chorus has a Seattle grunge akin to Alice In Chains vibe and they introduce more aggressive shouted singing. They have a layered sound of progressive metal and rock blended with the thrash riffs and doom. “Kalorama” has a smooth flow, full of melody and not so head ripping. The vocal harmonies are gentle with the clean guitars and crispy leads. Musically speaking, Demons My Friends are magnificent! “We All End Up Here” is a slow accent mixing in illustrious blues with excellent softer sounding rock. Right before the two minute mark, the music shifts into a heavy raw doom riff that totally crushes! It gives the song an uplift and rocks out nicely for the duration.

“Brain Holographics” is a musical jam session that has plenty of surprises. The music is psychedelic and bouncy with hard rocking riffs and melodies. Vocally, they stretch further out of the normal spectrum but own it in the process. Fragments of harsh-ish vocals are sprinkled in and they incorporate a theatrical and black metal sound within seconds of each other. Mind blowing and bizarre and it only gets more interesting. The next song “Smile” has a rougher edge and tone and they break into more black metal speed and shriek vocals. The progressive guitar work is amazing wrapped around all the chaos.

Demons My Friends finalize Survive/ Yourself with “The Isolate”. It’s another heavy, striking, and melodic song that exposes more layers to this already diverse and powerful band. It’s a pretty dense album that has a lot of great musical ideas shining through. The storming doom riff after the bass break in “The Isolate” is as savage and satisfying to listen to as anything else. Demons My Friends is a dense and diverse band to experience and Survive/ Yourself should not be taken lightly. Give these varied songs a chance to marinate and you’ll be rewarded with a new favorite record.
