White Tundra – Stories From The Dark
White Tundra is a hard stoner rock band from Trondheim, Norway. They consist of Steven Kresin on guitar and vocals, Kjell Andres Nilsen on lead guitar and vocals, Øyvind Persvik on bass, and Ola Fuglevaag on drums. Active since 2018, they have released: 2020’s Graveyard Blues EP, 2023’s Self Titled, and their latest sophomore, 2026’s Stories From The Dark. Stories From The Dark was released on April 24th 2026 on Argonauta Records. It contains six tracks at thirty seven minutes long.
“Healer” cranks out the stoner grooves right out of the gate! Fuzz-out guitars, booming bass, and thunderous drums, White Tundra doesn’t waste a second dominating the riff rocking jamboree that “Healer” delivers. Bouncy and mid paced tempo commands the timing as “Huset” storms out next, dishing out the stomping grooves and stoner riffs to my ears delight. The vocals have a gruff hoarseness to them that still remains melodic. I like the rawness to their sound which gives these songs a bite to their bark.
The third song entitled “Riderless Horse” begins more mellow and builds into a heavy and punchy rhythm. The nice and subtle psychedelic intro streams into a devastating surge of desert fuzz. The song clocks in at just over seven minutes making it the second longest track on Stories From The Dark. “Kultarberget” is another ripper! The song is the second one of two on the record that is sung in the band’s native language. The other one being the second track, “Huset”. The fifth track, “The Lake” is another fantastic song! The hypnotic rhythms get forged into your head and the flow of the music puts you in a trance. White Tundra has a catchiness to their sound but it’s not so blatantly obvious.
The final track on this terrific slab of fuzz, is called “White Tundra”. The nine minute monster has an epic metal tonality built around the stoner riffs and grooves. I really dig the ebbs and flows to this song, dancing from softer to heavier tones, with such an ease and elegance. Stories From The Dark is my introduction into the White Tundra sound and I am really enjoying it. They capture the perfect balance of familiarity and creativity, which makes this album a delightful experience to listen to and immerse myself in.
