Crobot – Supermoon

Crobot is hard rocking/ stoner metal band from Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Formed in 2011, they have released five full length albums including: 2014’s Something Supernatural, 2016’s Welcome To Fat City, 2019’s Motherbrain, 2022’s Feel This, 2024’s Obsidian, and their latest, 2026’s Supermoon. The band consists of Brandon Yeagley on lead vocals and harmonica, Chris Bishop on guitars and backing vocals, Willie Jansen on bass, and Nico Jansen on drums. Supermoon was released on May 1st 2026 on Megaforce Records. It contains twelve tracks at forty six minutes long.

When I first heard of Crobot back in 2024 when Obsidian came out, I wasn’t really moved by their sound. There was a  lot of buzz about the band but stylistically, I just wasn’t feeling their music back then. However, when Supermoon came out, I decided to give the band another chance. I’m sure as hell glad that I did! I was wondering if this was the same band even because a lot of the heavy metal leanings on Obsidian was no longer there. Instead, Crobot delivers a hard boogie rocking groove that incorporates blues and funk into the mix. I decided to listen to Obsidian again (which I now enjoy!) and dug into their other older releases as a reference for this review. Now I have a better understanding of where they started and the evolution of their sound throughout the last decade.

“Gun To My Head” opens the album up with a hard grooving rocker that reminds me of some of the funky aspects of Clutch. It has a bouncy and boogie rocking flow and even utilizes the harmonica as enhancements for the end of the verses. The music is loosely derived with a tight execution and sounds excellent. “Foot Off” takes the swing rocking groove to a whole other level! Brandon Yeagley’s vocals are perfect for this type of music. He has a great range and the vocal melodies are on point throughout Supermoon. I was a little taken aback from these first two tracks, not realizing how vibing Crobot is to the hard rock music world.

The third track called “Battle Cry” is a total banger! Mixing in some gritty and bombastic rhythms and catchy vocal melodies, the hot rocking song is fantastic! The tones sound so fresh and natural for Crobot, it’s hard to believe them sounding so metallic like their previous record. The slithering and swanky “Happy Days” is a more laid back but equally powerful tune. The hooks and groove with the whistling and stick taps are all appropriate and appreciated with this song. They dazzle into the funky “Girl From Another World” next. The catchy chorus and soulful bass lines make room for the guitars to jive with unrestrained freedom. “Me And Your Mother” really spikes up the cadence and rocks a Motown vibe with a Funkadelic groove. “Cold Blooded” is bluesy, rocking, and dynamic! It’s another great song that Crobot perform with such ease and smoothness. It’s really difficult not to enjoy these songs with the vibrant construct and consistency that the band brings to them.

The eighth track is called “Trouble (Looking For You)”. It breaks out the fuzz a little more but doesn’t downgrade the groove at all. The familiarity sounding of these tracks, even when listened to for the first time, is remarkable! “Bigger By The Pound” kicks up the jams and mixes in simple beats with dashes of progressive tones. The drumming is phenomenal on Supermoon and gives all the songs a spirited and lively element that transcends the music greatly. “Too Heavy” and “Tethered To Maw” are both excellent songs that continue to amplify the music into vivacious rhythms and melodies.

The final cut on this excellent recording is called “Let It Kill Me”. It has a groove and swagger that completes Supermoon with a strong finish. Enthusiastic and confident vocals with a blustering rhythm section poised with a boastful assurance, Crobot delivers a perfect album. I was really surprised and impressed with how spectacular this band sounds! I was not expecting this type of sonic impact but I am so pleased with the results. Supermoon is a strong contender for album of the year, it’s that damn good!
