Bird – Mondo Occvlto
Bird is a three-piece band from Naples, Italy. They play a combination of old school hard rock, blues, heavy psych, stoner and doom. They have released their debut, 2021’s The Great Beast from the Sea and various singles throughout their inception. They consist of Simone Pennicci on vocals and guitar, Pietro La Tegola on bass and backing vocals, and Johnny The Snake on drums. The band just released their latest sophomore album called Mondo Occvlto on April 4th 2026. It contains six tracks at thirty one minutes.
“Fright” storms through gate with an old school metal sound. Heavy and thrashing riffs with a catchy groove and gruff but melodic vocals. The break down of guitar leads and doom rhythms are electrifying and engaging right off the bat. Midway through the song, the music pauses, allowing a fuzzy roaring of the guitar to fire things back up. The retro tone on the riff is glorious and the proto-metal influences are in full bloom. There is unmistakably a strong Sabbath and real heavy metal essence, spewing from the band’s instruments. The heavy cymbal crashes and roto-tom drum fills are a great touch. The next track “Yehudit” is another banger! It kicks right in with a hard rocking fury of devastating riffs and melodies. The vocals are prominent and have a strong raspy draw throughout. The music at one point, shifts into some cosmic psychedelic progressions that are amazing! Bird knows how to flow into a spacey rock jamboree and totally melt our minds in the process.
The third track is called “The Fall Of The House Of Horus”, and it’s another heavy ripper filled with melody. The hard bluesy groove and rhythm is a joy to experience. More prog floating tones and musical magnificence is fluently crafted and executed with ease. Bird are super talented musicians who are beautiful songwriters too. “Sebeth” has that vintage rock charm with a more mellow design. The tribal percussion and sonically pleasing guitar work are worth mentioning, along with the smooth and commanding vocals. The song intensifies towards the end and facilitates a dynamic performance of classic hard driven rock.
“Queen Of The Mountain” is another grand slam song! I am really digging Mondo Occvlto as a complete record and all the songs are so thoroughly constructed. The scorching guitar leads take a hold of the listener and demands attention. Fantastic hard rocking music never sounded so good! The final track is called “The Saint” and it’s a great closer. The vibrant rocker has a catchy chorus and the vocals remind me of the old seventies band Buffalo. All around, it’s a great tune and a fantastic album! I was really impressed with the high quality of music that is packed onto these six tracks. Mondo Occvlto will definitely surprise a lot of people because Bird is an exceptionally talented band that writes awesome songs.
