Yeast Machine – Bad Milk
Yeast Machine is an alternative stoner rock/ grunge band from Tübingen, Germany. Since 2021, the five-piece has released: 2021’s Behind The Dead End EP – Studio Live Session, 2023’s Rise of the Yeast EP, 2024’s SLEAZE, and their latest, 2026’s Bad Milk. They have also released various singles throughout their career also. The band consists of Benjamin Frenzel on vocals and synth, Fabian Köninger on guitar and vocals, Tobias Köninger on guitar and vocals, Marcel Gundlach on bass, and Jonas Bischof on drums. Bad Milk was released on March 20th 2026 on Noisesolution Records. It contains ten tracks at thirty four minutes long.
“Globalized Condolences” begins the recording with an eerie dose of clean guitar and melancholy vocals that storm into heavy accents leading right into “Falling Rocks”. The introduction into Bad Milk has a strong Queens Of The Stone Age vibe that hits you with more fuzz and weirdness. “Falling Rocks” begins with pounding drums and amplifies into a smooth and heavy rhythm of catchy vocal melodies with layered singing. This song features The Red Flags contributing and rips into a nice sequence riffing in strong pursuit. The title track “Bad Milk” has low and crooning vocals with a hook-driven chorus that is catchy and lures you right in. Yeast Machine has a cool vibe and derive some esoteric sounds and riff raging grunge into their stoner medley of fuzzy tones.
“Foreshadowing” has beautiful acoustic guitar strumming with nice and subdued vocals that carry right into “Dust On The Radio”. The elaborate blending of one song into the next is very effective and satisfying. The swinging drum beats and clean to distorted guitar tones give each song a unique dynamic and warmth that resonates very well with me. The lush vocals can erupt into more aggressive melodies and drift back in a moments notice. “Feeding Poison To The Spiders Was Really Never My Thing” has very cool transitions that challenge this notion. The alternative riffing and bold execution is fueled with progressive pop and schizophrenic rock. The spoken vocals with the bass and drum rhythms are doused with fuzzy guitar enhancements, with memorable melodies in tow. “Foreshadowing” was the precursor to this sonic grandeur, which is a compelling ecstasy of alternative grunge fused with stoner rock. It’s definitely a highlight track on Bad Milk and starts the second half of the record with a jolt.
The next track entitled “Karthago” is acoustically driven with emotive vocals. I can hear some Nirvana influences on this one, along with a crunchy aura of desert rock. Yeast Machine flavors in some noisy guitar stabbings that cranks into a distorted groove of rhythm. The percussive stick taps start off “Honey & Sweat”, a grungy number that floods in melodies and riff rocking spikes of crushing grooves. The next song is one of my favorites from Bad Milk. The hi-hat and drum enhanced start to “Wobbly Wizard” bashes in the heavy tones of grunge and rock with great vocal layers on certain parts. This gives the song a psychedelic twist that corresponds perfectly with the rocking flow. The end sequence is delightful after the bass break, that explodes into a righteous rhythm slasher.
The final cut on this terrific album is called “The Golden Cage”. It’s almost a power ballad in the way the laid back tones dance with the emotional vocal performance. Harmonies and intermittent fuzz are draped over the surface of the song to enhance the sound even further. Powerful guitar leads crescendo perfectly with the heartfelt singing as the song finishes off with a melodious strumming of clean guitars. Yeast Machine has created an alluring collection of ten songs with Bad Milk that will grab your attention and gracefully play out the sonic rediscovery of post-grunge, dipped into the waters of fuzzy stoner rock.
