Child – Rebirth

Child is a powerful blues rock trio from Melbourne, Australia. Formed in 2012, the band consists of Mathias Northway on guitar and vocals, Rhys Kelly on bass, and Michael Lowe on drums and percussion. They have released 2014’s Self Titled, 2016’s Blueside, 2023’s Soul Murder, and their latest, 2026’s Rebirth. Rebirth is the band’s debut album for Italy’s Heavy Psych Sounds Records. It was released on June 26th 2026 and contains six tracks at thirty five minutes.

Sometimes when I hear an album for the first time, I can instantly connect to the feel and emotion of what the artist is conveying. The hard blues rock band Child has me hooked. From the noisy blues grooving of “Woman Like You “, the soulful vocals of Mathias Northway, is amazing! The lazy tones of rhythmic fuzz oozing out of the tube amps has me captivated. The authentic sound of Child is so engaging that it just draws you in. Northway’s guitar work is incredible and the leads are powerfully executed.

The second track “Forget How To Love” is a mid paced rocker. The transition of light to heavy tones is fluid and the flow is smooth and loose. However, the third track “Heavy Load” is where I really connect. The song has a very catchy chorus and beautiful melody throughout. It has a strong pull on my emotions with the lyrics and message, coupled with the perfect execution. Child is a remarkable heavy blues rock band with a gritty fuzz tone and spellbinding vocals.

“Damned Heart” is another fantastic song. The smooth and intoxicating tones engulf me completely. These songs all have a strong connection and purpose for me and Rebirth is a very special album for me to hear right now. One of my favorite tracks is the fifth one called “I Tried”. The slow and bluesy resonance hits my heart strings hard with the personal lyrics of insightful experiences and emotions. The vocals sound so powerful and fantastic for this song. The sixth and final track is called “Cold Shoulder”. It’s a wonderfully simple and emotive blues number that dazzles with excellent guitar work and divine vocals. This album is excellent and one of the best blues rock records that I’ve heard in a long time, seriously.
