The Curse Of Sahara – Sumthin’ Wrong?

The Curse Of Sahara is a bluesy heavy rock/ proto-metal trio from Entre Ríos, Argentina. Formerly known as Sahara, the band consists of Martin Ludi on guitar and vocals, Gabriel Ravera on bass and vocals, and Lucio Rodriguez on drums. Sahara was a legendary band in the Argentinian stoner rock/ doom metal scene. They released two full-length albums: 2018’s II and 2022’s III, as well as 2023’s Live album and a Split with Mephistofeles. The first release under The Curse Of Sahara name was a two-track EP, 2023’s PHANTOM MEMBER/CHEAP LUV. The band released their latest full length album, 2026’s Sumthin’ Wrong? on February 28th 2026 on Saturn Eye Records. It contains ten tracks at thirty seven minutes long.

The Curse Of Sahara has a strong retro sound that hits you right from the start! The title track “Sumthin’ Wrong?” pushes those electrifying tones of the seventies in a nice and raw sort of way. Catchy and hypnotic right from the start, the trio has a noisy garage vibe with “Phantom”, pummeling the hard rocking grooves and scorching guitar leads. The gritty sound is so inviting with songs like “I Shot The Man” and “Skid Raw”.  The Curse Of Sahara has a boogie rock energy that doesn’t let up at all! The three-piece are tight and write great songs too.

“Alzheimer (No entiendo)” lures in the sound and then hits you right in the head with full on acid rocking blues. Everything about this band is vintage hard rock done with the right essence of that era. “Dontcha Feel It?” has such a bombastic rocking groove and fiery leads that electrify your whole body! “Born Under” and “Ten Years After” are both fantastic songs! With the latter, strumming some acoustic guitars in the mix of the distorted resonance. It adds a nice layer to the song. The vocals throughout Sumthin’ Wrong? are perfectly suited for this type of retro-rock. “Cheap Woman” has a bouncy vibrancy with overdriven and almost static sounding tones and chilling vocals. The song is catchy and rocks hard in that classic style they ensue. I would have sworn this music was birthed in the early seventies, from the sound of the recording to the general vibes that they produce.

The final track is called “Hora de dormir”. It has a slower and more controlled beginning that erupts into a blues explosion. The hard rocking grooves speed up and get noisy and then transition back down to the more mellow bluesy tones. The Curse Of Sahara are a very interesting and talented band that has really got that retro-bluesy hard rock sound dialed in. The riffs and melodies are catchy and should satisfy fans of blues-driven, vintage hard rock. Sumthin’ Wrong? is a fantastic album that checks a lot of boxes for fuzzy classic heavy rock.
