Dirty Dwarfs – Self Titled
Dirty Dwarfs is a new hard rocking trio featuring Michael Binder on guitars and vocals and Florian Thiele on drums, both from the band Paralyzed. Based in Bamberg, Germany, Dirty Dwarfs is rounded out with Andreas Ködel on bass and began jamming in 2020. The band has a hard driving stoner blues sound that has elements of psychedelic mixed in. They just released their Self Titled debut album on March 2nd 2026. It contains seven tracks at thirty six minutes long.
The opening track “Trouble Man” cranks in the heavy rock right from the start! An energetic and groove-laden rocker that gets everything moving! Dicing in some jammy guitar explosions and bombastic drumming, Dirty Dwarfs are here to make a massive statement with their stoner riffalicious grooves. The music dazzles towards the end with scorching leads, accented rhythms, and reckless drum fills. “Rattlesnake Blues” has a straight ahead and heavy groove that is rocking the blues in full fever. Dirty Dwarfs has a classic seventies draw with tight and solid musicianship to boot. This band has real soul in their sound that permeates through the riffs and into the melodies.
The third track, “Superbus” is another killer! Full on grooving rock done with such grit and honesty. The raspy vocals of Binder, coupled with the simple but infectious rhythms are a terrific complement to each other. Dirty Dwarfs could be compared to Paralyzed but without the keyboards, and they have a more stripped down and boogie groove approach to heavy rock. “Lonesome” is a classic blues rock song that is just amazing! The guitar leads are exceptional and electrify the music with full audio expansion. The sound is so powerful and exciting and these guys really capture what a true power trio is capable of. The music will carry you along for a sonic adventure, as the emotionally powerful “Lonesome” has done. The riffs and vocals coalesce nicely and provide the heavy walloping of hard rock to enter inside of you.
When songs like “Ballsdeep” start playing, they wake you up to the pleasures of unfiltered and hook-driven riff rock. Dirty Dwarfs do not sound like a new band whatsoever. They are rooted in classic rock and crank out the blues and heavy psych without hesitation. The production on this recording is amazing! Each instrument sounds dense and full in the mix, leaving us with a whirlwind of vintage tones and stoner rhythms. “Rebound My Soul” begins with the fuzzy bass and kicks into a heavy pounding groove. The music scales back down as the vocals appear, keeping it bluesy and the more mellow sounds intact. The song is a beautiful crescendo of well written and recorded passages that totally resonate and rock across a large spectrum. The drums sound thunderous on this album and I can’t say enough great things about what the guitar’s are articulating and producing. The wall of sound created from these three individuals is immense and captivating especially when listening to this in one uninterrupted moment.
The last track entitled “Theme For The Winter” is a cosmic instrumental that drifts into psychedelic territory and mind wandering melodies. It stands as a great closer for such an amazing debut record. The slow and elegant build up from clean guitars to tribal accents, and finally into the complete rhythm section jamming together. Dirty Dwarfs is a band that I didn’t expect to make such a big impression and entrance into the heavy underground universe. The last Paralyzed album, Rumble & Roar was a process of a slow and steady percolation of amazing music sinking into my subconscious, and after watching the band perform live at the Planet Desert Rock Weekend this past January, I was completely sold on their sound and talents. It’s no surprise that this band is striking me the same way but Dirty Dwarfs hits me more directly, for some reason. It could likely be a combination of the way the music is written and structured or to already being warmed up with Paralyzed, and that whole vibe. Whatever the case may be, there is no denying that this Self Titled album is fantastic and should be listened to by anyone into hard driven rock, and all of its derivatives.
