Desert Collider – Generation Ship: Endless Drift Through Infinity

Desert Collider is a four-piece heavy psychedelic stoner rock band from Cesena, Italy. Consisting of Federico Costanzo on guitars, vocals, percussio, and synthesizers, Federico Gianfanti on vocals and synthesizers, Manuel Colucci on bass, and Andrea Casagranda on drums and percussion, they released their debut EP, Sonic Carver in 2024. Desert Collider have returned with their latest full length album entitled Generation Ship: Endless Drift Through Infinity. Released on March 6th 2026 on Small Stone Records, the album contains eight tracks just over an hour long.

The album begins with the excellent “Orphans of the Sky Part I: Generation Ship”. The almost eight minute track, begins with a slow and steady psychedelic movement that erupts into a stoner rocking groove. The cosmic flow and heavy drive of the riffs segway into a spacey and mind altering passage, just shy of the four minute mark. The synthesized swirls and ethereal guitars delve deep into a distorted spoken segment that intensifies as the music expands with the fuzz. The vocals are in Italian too, which adds a dark and interesting element to the song. The second track, “Floating Space Hand” begins with the guitar and the vocals, with heavy accents that cascade into a dense and fuzzed-out rhythm. The vocals transcend into more singing with raspy tones as the riffs magnify into cosmic elegance. It’s a heavy and heady song that takes you on one hell of a ride!

“Sonic Carver” hits you full on with a fuzzy sound of riff rocking fury! The slamming rhythms are spiced up with intergalactic melodies and spacey jams, redirecting the song into another heavy dimension. It’s got a great flow of desert rocking pummeling and riffalicious tones. Desert Collider has a very powerful sound and interesting vibe with their music. When the next song, “Orphans of the Sky Part II: Disembark” starts, things are about to get real! The swirling cosmic tones emerge into a massive doom riff that quickly transitions into clean guitars and psychedelic melodies. The fuzz-drenched heaviness returns with a sludgy resonance that shifts back and forth between the two worlds of sound. There’s a transformation that emerges from the atmospheric chaos to the full on distorted rhythms. Desert Collider floats between both polarities with ease and seamless comfort. The eleven minute odyssey feels much shorter because of their interesting transitions and sonic accumulations.

“ThumpeRRR” cranks into a riff raging machine that bulldozes ahead with a brazen fury. The mid-tempo storm of fuzz rock changes gears two thirds of the way through and bashes heavy rhythms with atmospheric trickles. “Nomads of the Red Sun” mellows things back with beautiful acoustic guitars and synthesized sounds. The second layer of clean guitars strums along with some very nice tribal percussion added in as well. It’s a great instrumental piece that dials the intensity back down and sets the listener up for “Far Centaurus: Drifting without Guidance through Interstellar Space”, the longest track on the record. The thirteen minute and forty second song begins with clean guitars, airy sounds, and soothing, lush vocals. The slow and steady build up lures you in for the beating. Just after the four and a half minute mark, Desert Collider cranks up the fuzz and tempo with some old school 1000 Mods style arrangements. The song transitions again a few minutes later and drifts back into an astral position of celestial tones. The last minute or so of the song concludes with the acoustic guitar strumming until completion.

The eighth and final track on this fantastic album is called “Nebuchadnezzar”. The drums start things off as guitar feedback creeps in before a devastating riff commences. This high octane number is a raging riff machine! Electrifying leads complement the fuzzy rhythms and the music rings out momentarily. Just before the four minute point, the bass guitar dazzles us with a cool riff that plays out a few measures, before the rest of the band join in. It’s a terrific sequence to end the song, and ultimately the record with. Desert Collider really surprised me with how great of a sound they made with Generation Ship: Endless Drift Through Infinity. Being a fairly new band, they really impressed me with their brand of fuzzy stoner rock and spacey psychedelic soundscapes. The songs are deeply vivid with a riveting variance that makes me want to keep listening, over and over again. Don’t sleep on this one! There are so many layers to Desert Collider that will absolutely blow your mind! This should be a top contender for debut album of the year because it’s that damn good.
