Myar – Bleak Mountains

Myar is a stoner doom/ heavy psych band from Lille, France. They consist of Nina Hirsch on bass, Julien Scymaniak on drums, Victorien Guy on guitars, and Paul-Antoine Vinchent on guitars. Myar just released their debut album called Bleak Mountains on April 4th 2026. It contains six tracks at thirty six minutes long.

“As A Line” begins with a fuzzy guitar riff that kicks into a heavy rocking groove. Once the vocals enter, the music mellows out with airy psychedelic guitars and the rhythm section holding down the foundation. The music shifts into a mid flowing of metal as the vocals are both clean and raspy throughout the song. I really enjoy the fuzzed-out stoner grooves contrasted to the heavy psych and atmospheric textures and tones. The second track, “Endlessly On Standby” has a spacy intro that rips into a hard rocking edge. The vocals are a little gruff but melodic and sound great with the progressive heavy psych metal that Myar are dishing out. The music scales the walls of seventies and early eighties hard rock covered in a haze of doom.

“Nothing” is a classic dirge of Sabbath inspired riffs, bleached in fuzz. The guitar leads are electrifying and eerie and the vocals stretch their range a bit and delivers a great tune. Another highlight of the song, is the incredible bass runs and fills. The song really gets rolling midway through and jams out pretty hard. Myar then pause, allowing the gripping bass riff to initiate the massive doom rhythm ending. “Ham Pie” strikes next and it’s a banger! It has a more upbeat and rock approach as the song progresses. The over eight minute track is full of raging riffs and bluesy metallic leads. The stomping grooves and solid rhythm section opens up the song to let things fly loose a bit. The almost Pink Floyd style psych permeates from the song, as a fury of guitar leads overtake it.

The fifth track called “Locked Up” is a very different and original song, especially at the start. The kick drum and clanging provide the rhythm for the vocals to take over. After a few measures, the drums pick up and the warm bass line joins in. The guitars turn on the fuzz and continue on with the heavy groove. The band really jives well together, and this song has a funky punch, enveloped in a a wall of fuzz. The harmonized vocals adds a lot of charm to the song. The sixth and final track is called “Mother”. The hard driving rocker finishes off Bleak Mountains with a hard swinging groove of unfiltered riff rock. The cool and swaggered tempo and bluesy glide enhance their sound even more, ripping out some powerful guitar leads to conclude this very impressive debut album.
