Elefus – Time To Bend

Elefus is an alternative stoner/ progressive/ psych rock band from Australia. They consist of Scott Cook on lead guitars and vocals, Matt Augustyn on drums, Mark Matthews on rhythm guitar, and Dan Eldano Brown on bass. They just released their debut full length album entitled Time To Bend on April 17th 2026. It contains nine tracks at fifty minutes long.

Elefus has a very expansive sound that molds together hard seventies rock, progressive, heavy psych, and heavy metal. “Catacombs” has a cosmic stoner flair with maybe some post-rock with a sprinkle of Voivod. The tones are atmospheric and not too abrasive or fuzzy, showcasing the more melodic eccentricities of heavy rock. The hypnotic rhythms of “I Know You” lead you on an open minded journey into space rock like never before. Musically speaking, Elefus is fantastic! The guitars play off of each other very well like on the killer riff entanglement from “The Red Witch”. This catchy number has a great rocking groove and a powerful vocal performance too.

“Field Trips” begins with the bass and has a dark tone enveloped over the song. The guitar playing is exceptional and has a mesmerizing sound permeating from the amplifiers. Elefus has such a dense and sonically pleasing resonance to their music that it’s easy to get swept away and lost in deep thought while listening to Time To Blend. The more doomy “Desiderate” is an interesting example of how to let a song take you on a mindful journey. It has such an alluring pull and hypnotic drive that by the time “Cobwebs” begins, your mind is already disconnected. Time To Bend is such a powerful and suitable name for this record. When a transcendental song like “Ragnar” starts playing, the concept of time will cease to exist. The almost eight minute musical excursion is another head trip. I love the fact that Elefus went for it all on this album, The band has a strong sense of who they are and these nine tracks are a testament to that.

“Last Reserve” and the closer, “Relativita” are terrific songs! They both exist within the stoner rock umbrella with the cosmic fluidity of psychedelic rock anchoring the ship. The echo-y vocals enhance the hallucinating effects of the music and airy soundscapes that Elefus so eloquently produces. Time To Bend is a grower of a record but worth every second of the endeavor.
