Mother Iron Horse – Self Titled

Mother Iron Horse is a heavy stoner sludge metal band from Salem, Massachusetts. They consist of Adam Luca on vocals, Marco Medina on guitar, Chris Kobialka on drums, Drew Pelrine on guitar, and Dylan Sullivan on bass. Formed in 2018, the quartet have released 2018’s The Curse EP, 2019’s The Lesser Key, 2021’s Under The Blood Moon, and their latest, 2026’s Self Titled. Mother Iron Horse was released on May 1st 2026 on Hellmouth Records. It contains nine tracks at thirty five minutes long.

Mother Iron Horse has returned with their first album in five years, and it’s a banger! Right out of the gate, “Wretched Kings” pummels the listener with an aggressive dose of heavy groove metal. “Darkness Over Me” is a riff rager of chuggy rhythms and the ferocity of a band making a loud statement. Mother Iron Horse are not messing around with mellow tones and beautiful melodies. Although, the beginning of the sixth track, “Strigoi Viu”begins with some divine clean guitars. However, when “The Shallows” kicks in, it’s a straight up punch in the face! Thick and fuzzed-out grooves permeate this record with annihilating rhythms of metallic destruction. Adam Luca’s angry vocals are shouted with raw conviction throughout these nine devastating tracks.

“Clouds Coming In” storms the front lines ready for battle! The colossal beat down of heavy stoner metal build upon hammering drums and cathartic guitar fuzz, is what Mother Iron Horse is dishing out. The menacing sounds of “Under The Wheel”, “Face Down”, and “Beyond The Veil” all deliver a sonic ass kicking, unlike anything else. The band are more than just a musical vehicle of violence. Beyond the savage riffing of bludgeoning metal, the band flexes some very powerful and electrifying guitar leads throughout this recording. The production and sound quality of this album is also fantastic, really making these songs stand out on their own.

The final score on this excellent Self Titled third full length is called “Bloodletting”. The massive sludge and doom onslaught is a spectacular and appropriate way to close out this record. Stomping, crushing, and relentless, these nine tracks will leave you in a puddle of blood. Mother Iron Horse is for fans of everything heavy and dangerous. Make no mistake, this album is either a stress release or fuel to incite a riot. In either case, Mother Iron Horse is back with a brutal vengeance!
