All Them Witches have been making a big name for themselves recently in the heavy underground music scene. Their popularity has been growing steadily for the last several years now and the buzz about this band is quite impressive. Unfortunately, I have never really listened to them before this latest offering and I was curious to hear what all the excitement is about with this well established band. Their music has an eclectic mix of hard rock, heavy psych, blues, folk, alternative, and stoner elements that make up their dynamic sound. Honestly, it took me several good listens before the music started moving me to where I was really feeling what All Them Witches had to offer.

The first single on House Of Mirrors was the lead off track, “Red Rocking Chair”. The clean guitars and mellow start to the song lures you in with the smooth vocals leading the way. When the song ascends into the heavy fuzz of doom between the verses, the transitions strike hard and massive. All Them Witches has a strong atmospheric resonance to their music, with subtle twists of ambiance and melody that can erupt heavily in any moment, with the distortion as the climax. “Culling Line” is an esoteric novelty of smooth tones, soulful vocals, and divine guitar leads. There is a dark and melancholy feel to some of these songs that ignite a strong connection to them. “Aethernet” has a folk-ish flavor to the music and singing. The simplicity in its execution is magical in its effect that takes place on me when I’m listening to it. There is an emotional tugging that happens when I’m listening to these tracks and I can begin to understand what this music does to the average All Them Witches fan base.

“Hold Up, Say What?” kicks right in with a driving bass rhythm and an uptempo wallop of rocking fury, whereas “Go-getter” is another subdued expression of melodic enchantment. All Them Witches splices in a southern rock and folky blues vibe to the next track, “Starting Line”. The acoustically driven song is an emotive wrecking machine of beautiful tones and heavier pursuits of distortion. Airy synth sounds pepper the song with psychedelic passages of introspective delight. “Turn On The Light” connects with a unique groove of mellow tones and insightful jamming, as the song builds up steam. “Angel On The Wayside” has a vintage hard rock swagger in the riffs and presentation. It’s a great rocking track that positions the classic hard rock sound into the band’s own sonic bliss of musical arrangements.

“The Welterweight” is another great track! Beginning with the piano and vocals, it builds into a heavier array of hard rock with some progressive leanings. It marks the second single from House Of Mirrors and offers a great mix of suitable styles from the band. The final number on the album is called “Saturn Song”. It’s another slow brewing track that completes this spellbinding and sentimental rock opus. Most of these songs are multifaceted in feeling and allure. The softer and more mellow structures are accented with the denser and heavier rhythms, all of which creates an engaging experience to embark on. The manner in which these songs speak to me is an ongoing process. I wasn’t initially taken aback by their music but each time that I listen to House Of Mirrors, I am further drawn into it. A slow and steady percolation of insightful songs are taking me on a roller coaster ride into a sentimental musical adventure that I didn’t even realize I needed.
