Shadow Of Jupiter – Bones

Shadow Of Jupiter is a stoner rock band from Chicago, Illinois and north west Indiana. They consist of John Piotrowski on lead vocals, Colin Peterson on guitars, Scott Brakebill on bass, and Adam Kazragys on drums. They released their debut album called Porta Coeli in 2023 and just recently put out their latest, sophomore record called Bones. The recently signed Ripple Music four-piece released Bones on July 10th 2026. It contains seven tracks at forty one minutes long.

I was first turned on to Shadow Of Jupiter through my good friend Dan, from The Heavy Desert Podcast. I liked their debut Porta Coeli and was anticipating Bones prior to coming out. The buzz about this band has been substantial lately and I was curious to hear how the follow-up would compare to the debut. Well, they absolutely delivered and knocked it out of the park with Bones!

The title track “Bones” begins this album and makes a huge statement. The swirling fade in introduction to when that slamming first riff kicks in, Shadow Of Jupiter have arrived! The heavy and grooving rhythms are the perfect platform for vocalist John Piotrowski to shine. His soulful and melodic voice carries these seven tracks into the subconscious mind. The riff and hook of “Bones” will be stuck in your head forever. There’s a smooth and satisfying swagger to this song that just mesmerizes me while I listen to it. The song has the perfect feel and energy that cements their sound into your brain in a way that a perfect desert rock song will do. The song lures you in, whereas the next track, “Whatever God You Fear”, shoves you away. The hard driving riff rocker is a banger! It’s a straight up powerful number filled with nice drum fills, great rhythms, and strong vocals.

The third track, “Ugly On The Inside” begins with the bass and drums and is enticed with the fuzzy guitars and expressive vocals. The song has a head bobbing reflex with its smooth grooves of stoner blues. The guitar leads are terrific too and the whole vibe of this song is positive and satisfying to my ears. “Echoe Chamber” was the first single from the record and demonstrates a great representation of Shadow Of Jupiter, at its most direct stage. The heavy doom-style riffs are chugging and dark. The vocals express their magic and the song has a great sequence of riff cycled jamming towards the end.

“Rumblestrip” is another catchy rocker with great riffs and hooks that sink into you. The heavy metal tone is prominent with the riffing and leads slicing through. The next track called “Riot Dogs” is a monster! The fuzz-laden bass line that begins the song keeps it slow and doomy for a couple of measures. The song then cranks into a heavy southern biker metal groove that feels just right. The musical dynamics are on point and their shift from heavy to soft and back is flawless. The production of this record sounds fantastic! The instruments are clearly designed to sound like equal pieces to this sonic puzzle. The more I listen to Bones, the better it sounds every time!

The seventh and final song is called “For Heaven Above”. The hypnotic flow and melodious textures shine brightly through this song with a psychedelic tone of mellow blues. This is a perfect capper for a remarkable creation. If Shadow Of Jupiter are on a mission to achieve sonic excellence, then Bones is the obvious answer.
