Slomosa – Live 3/20/25

Live at The Paradise Rock Club in Boston, Massachusetts , USA *March 20th 2025*
This past Thursday night, my wife and I drove down to Boston to see Norway’s Slomosa play at the iconic Paradise Rock Club. They were supporting Helmet on their 30 year anniversary tour for the album Betty. This was the first time that Slomosa has ever played in Boston and what a night it was! The Paradise Club is a great venue with an amazing sound. We positioned ourselves as close to the front of the stage as possible (second row essentially). We arrived early enough to secure a great spot, just before the opening band came on. The openers were decent enough and played for about thirty minutes or so. But we were there to watch Slomosa tear the place apart and that’s exactly what they did!
Slomosa took the stage just before 9:00 and opened with the first song on their sophomore album, Tundra Rock called “Afghansk Rev”, which is an introduction type of track of just music. It’s got a great dynamic of light to heavy music of excellent desert rock. It made for a suitable intro before the band kicked into “Cabin Fever”, also on Tundra Rock (album review here). The sound and energy was amazing! Everyone in the crowd was bouncing around feeding off the vitality of the band and their exceptional music. They sounded super tight and on point throughout their forty minute set. It was so awesome to feel and witness the sheer electricity of their performance. They played “In My Mind’s Desert” next, which is on their Self Titled debut record and then proceeded to rip out “Battling Guns” from Tundra Rock.
Slomosa had great stage presence, head banged with the music, and they had good banter with the audience. It was a super cool vibe throughout and everyone in the crowd was feeling it. The next two songs were also from the debut, “There Is Nothing New Under The Sun” and “Kevin”. Everything sounded amazing throughout the band’s set! This was the first show of the new year for me and I had goosebumps the whole set. Slomosa are getting more and more popular and they have a special kind of vibe and sound that is pretty accessible. The desert rock torch that was lit by Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age has been passed on to Slomosa. The Norwegian quartet are doing things their way and have their own distinct sound.
The closing song was the awesome “Horses”. This song has started a cult of fans bringing horse heads to their shows and wearing them for this particular track. We were next to a stable of several horse headed fans and it was very cool. Slomosa really connected with the crowd and delivered one of the best performances that I have ever witnessed. I felt high after the set and was just overwhelmed with excitement and joy. Music is such a powerful drug for me and I love seeing bands play in smaller venues like this. It’s so satisfying to feel the music crank through my body. After the set, my wife and I each got a shirt and headed upstairs and sat for a few minutes. Being a work night, we decided we would take off and try and get home at a reasonable hour. On our way out, I bumped into Craig Riggs, vocalist for Kind/ drummer for Sasquatch. He was super cool and friendly and I really appreciated that. I kind of felt weird because I’m a huge fan of his music and talents and I was still buzzing from Slomosa. We listened to part of the first Helmet song and then hit the road. It was a fantastic show and a great start to my live music journey for the year.
