REZN – Cycles In The Infinite Dream

REZN is a Chicago-based heavy psych, doom, and stoner metal band. The lineup consists of Rob McWilliams on vocals and guitar, Phil Cangelosi on bass, Patrick Dunn on drums, and Spencer Ouellette on synthesizer, saxophone, flute, and lap steel. Formed in 2016, their recordings include: 2017’s Let It Burn, 2018’s Calm Black Water, 2020’s Chaotic Divine, 2023’s Solace, 2024’s Burden, and their latest, 2026’s Cycles In The Infinite Dream. Cycles In The Infinite Dream was released on July 24th 2026, on Sargent House Records. It contains nine tracks at forty two minutes long.

For whatever reason REZN wasn’t really on my radar. I think I listened to one of their recordings but it didn’t connect with me at that time. I learned that being in the right headspace is important with taking in certain styles of music. A band like REZN has a lot of dynamics and transitions happening in the songs that it’s not always easy to embrace. I decided to really give Cycles In The Infinite Dream a fair chance and listened to it completely multiple times. To my surprise, it grew on me and I am really digging their sound.

“Rites Of Passage” begins this expansive album with a beautiful blend of heavy and harmony. Rich and thick chugging riffs and swirls of atmospheric bliss carry the music. The vocals are melodic and powerful and the song has a very memorable vibe. The second track, “Transient” is heavy and soaring with spellbinding rhythms and emotive vocals. There’s a very cool saxophone solo midway through that perfectly blends right in. REZN has such a massive and extensive sound that is much more than big, fuzzy riffs with pounding drums. Although those arrangements are included, it’s the heavy keys, synth, and saxophone elements that give them their depth and character.

The third track called “Cloudfall” is a fantastic number! It has a hard rocking flow with eerie textures coloring the song. It directs a hard groove but retains a doom identity with fragments of psychedelia leaking through. “Aerial Birth” is another great song that takes my mind on an adventurous musical journey. REZN can hypnotize the listener with these songs. The transcendent flow with the clean guitars of “Devotion” as an interlude of such is beautiful and divine. For the track that proceeds, “The Vessel” is crunchy with the riffage and catchy with the vocal melodies. The chugging guitars and soaring vocals are a perfect match for all of the songs on Cycles In The Infinite Dream. I am glad that this band is really connecting with me now.

The next track entitled “Escher” has an unhurried glide with a laid back vibe. The vocals are smooth and it’s nice to get lost in a record sometimes. REZN has successfully captured my attention and feels with this excellent album! “Primal Thread” begins with the bass and floats a soft rhythm that resonates. The alternative dynamics of this band is remarkable. The final track, “Terra Preta” is a fantastic closer, a musical that has a Pink Floyd element in the sound effects and slow build ups. The song gets heavier but never loses its melody. REZN has a head tripping sound that lures me right in. This album requires multiple listens but once it sticks, it’s like glue to the soul.
