Iguanahead – Lizardcore EP

Iguanahead is a power trio from Nashville, Tennessee. The band features James Moor on guitar, synth, and vocals, Nathan Camp on bass, synth, and vocals, and Jonah Gillespie-Sickmen on drums and percussion. They have a slew of singles released starting from 2021 including: Chug, Brains, Terraform, Angel Groove, Workhorse, Traitor, Tennessee Stud, etc. They also have a couple of live recordings, Live at RP (Lynchburg, VA / June ’23) and Live at Tomato Fest ’23. They released their debut EP this past March 14th 2025, entitled Lizardcore. Self described as “Shred sled rock n roll straight outta Nashville”, the band’s sound has a stoner rock groove that is decorated with mellow and acoustic tones throughout. It’s excellent music that is versatile and emotive. Lizardcore contains six tracks and is around twenty nine minutes long.

The opening song is called “Sweetness” and begins the recording with an eight minute long doomy/ heavy psych song. It has a nice slow and hard rock feel that is enhanced with excellent vocals. The music has an interesting mix of atmospheric tones with a beautiful and fuzzy guitar sound. The riffs are heavy and melodic with rolling bass lines and fantastic leads. Just after the 4:20 mark, the pace of the song picks up and the jamming really shines. There are fuzzy guitar rhythms, layers of synth, bluesy leads, and busy bass lines that are all connected with some great bombastic drumming. It’s an introspective and excellent opening track. The second song, entitled “Pressure” has a more mellow tone in its design. The dual style singing reminds me of Pink Floyd and is matched perfectly with the airy and dreamy music. This band are really talented musicians and each instrument has a special place and expression in each of the six tracks. “Sage” begins with acoustic guitar and floats into a nice mix of clean and distorted tones. The vocal harmonies are dynamic and the rhythm section is a rock solid foundation for the guitars to flourish, whether it be electrifying leads or ravishing acoustic passages.

“The Seed” is a stunning classical guitar interlude that gets the listener ready for the final two majestic songs. “Under The Oak Tree” is an elegant and divine sounding tune that mixes in clean guitars, riff rocking elements, and more melodic dual vocals. The drumming is exceptional all around and the song is just a graceful and exquisite musical delight. The sixth and final track on Lizardcore is called “Soul Portal”. The song starts off with a heavy dose of fuzz that quickly transitions into a psychedelic essence as the vocals emerge. The distortion is pieced in between the more subtle parts and keeps the song very engaging throughout. Iguanahead are masters of blending in both softer and heavier components within each song. They are excellent song writers that are not full on fuzz and distortion but has a lot of that gripping melody, which really locks you in. The more times that I listen to this EP, the more enjoyable it becomes. I really appreciate their song crafting skills and the sound of Iguanahead’s playing. They incorporate the right blend of vocal harmonies, fuzz-driving riffs, and melodic tones. I am really looking forward to hearing more from this excellent band.
