Red Sun Atacama – Summerchild

Red Sun Atacama is a stoner rock trio from Bordeaux, France. Playing an eclectic blend of desert rock, psychedelic, and punk, the band consists of Clément Márquez on bass and vocals, Robin Caillon on drums, and Vincent Hospital on guitar. Formed in 2014, they have released 2015’s Part. I (demo EP), 2018’s Licancabur, 2022’s Darwin, and their latest, 2026’s Summerchild. Summerchild was released on March 13th 2026 on Hajime Sonic Productions/ Mrs Red Sound. It contains eight tracks at forty minutes long.

“Passenger” kicks off Summerchild with a vibrant and hard rocking surge! A fury of heavy driving riffs and blazing rhythms, Red Sun Atacama are here to tear down the walls with mid paced grooving and electrifying leads. The vocals are snarly with a punk attitude and the chorus is a viscous rage of goodness. Right at the midpoint, the music drops down into a clean psychedelic guitar part and a grooving bass line with a nice simple drum beat. It then expands into a riff raging finale with shouty vocals and a righteous stoner explosive rhythm. The second track “Conveyor” begins with a fuzzy bass riff that strikes into a punk rocking intensity. The vocals and music blend perfectly with the tones and pacing of the song. It enters into a psychedelic echo as the band pauses, allowing the guitars to flourish. Red Sun Atacama then jams into a cosmic funky riffer to finish off another great song.

“Weightless” begins with some cool mellow clean guitars that hammers into a colossal stoner groove. Clément Márquez has an interesting sounding voice that I particularly enjoy. It works great with the music and carries the sound across the valley of a desert rocking landscape. Musically, Red Sun Atacama are dynamic and shift the song from heavy to dreamy in a seamless flow. The fuzz growling bass tones provide the battering drums and noise rocking guitars to soar. “Weightless” goes right into the percussion pounding of “Commotions”, another fantastic track on the record. A full rocking blaze that clobbers in a heavy doom cascade after a beautiful somber passage. The musical dynamics are on point and Summerchild doesn’t take long to fully set in.

The airy psychedelic glide of “Graze The Sun” cranks into a fuzzy groove, rather meticulously. That’s the great thing about a band like Red Sun Atacama, they transition quickly and precisely execute a rhythmic transcendence of sonic variance for each song. “Graze The Sun” is a great example of the heavy to light dynamics, and it fills in a lot of space and styles also. As where the title track, “Summerchild” is a mid paced rocker that delves in the heavy stoner doom avalanche on the back half of the song. They lead right into the bombastic “Ragdoll”, the most lengthy track on the album, clocking in at just over eight minutes. The rhythms are viscous and well thought out, allowing a slew of introspective tones to  really resonate throughout the song. Great flowing tones with exciting and decorative leads also spice up the song, as it fades out. The final song, Sundown” is a cosmic ballad of clean guitars, synth, and tribal drumming. It mellows things out nicely with soothing vocals, carefully bringing the listener back to center. A very nice and calming way to finalize this amazing album.
