Me And My Shadow was released on January 30th 2026 on Transgenic Records. It contains eight tracks at forty one minutes long.
Dirty Sound Machine has a very interesting sound that is both bluesy and psychedelic with an eccentric twist. The opener “Power of This Song” has a nice twangy and groove rocking sound that is very catchy. The quirky vocals are great and catchy, with a touch of soul. I love the swinging drum beats and excellent guitar leads. Listen to this track several times and I bet that it will be stuck in your head. “Dance And Die” has a bouncy vibrancy and catchiness that has a funky resonance. The band are very talented and creative musicians that are not overly heavy or fuzzy. There’s an retro-sounding vibe throughout Me And My Shadow, even with the more mellow songs like “Swimming In Trance”. The clean and jamming guitars are joined with a smooth reverberation of the vocals.
“Dead Inside” has a funky and rocking groove circling around an echo-y vocal style. The head bobbing music is dynamic and engaging. There’s some great leads and wah guitar action happening with this one. The longest track on the record is called “Calypso”, which clocks in just shy of ten minutes. The guitars begin the track with some cool psychedelic wankering as the music builds up. The more subdued and easy approach is a nice break, as the band explore some fascinating soundscapes on this one. “The 9 Commandments of Men” picks up the pace with some great acoustic guitars starting things off. It’s another interesting and unique song that jams along nicely throughout.
The seventh track entitled “Long Drive” is another mellow song with nice smooth and pronounced vocals. I really enjoy the vibe of this song as it doesn’t amplify too much but has a dynamic groove throughout. The last song is the title track, “Me and My Shadow”. It’s another great number that caps off the recording with a little more distortion, mixed with acoustic, hooks and melodies. Overall, I find this to be a great release! This being my first encounter with Dirty Sound Magnet, I am pleasantly impressed. The sound is uncommon from what I’m used to hearing but I’m digging this quite a bit.
