Cannabus – Ride The Buss
Cannabus is a three-piece stoner rock band from Welland, Ontario, Canada. They consist of James Matheson on guitar and vocals, Ethan Scott on bass, and Brandon Doucet on drums. They have released two EPs: 2023’s The Maple Spliff Sessions and 2024’s Other Side. They also released several singles and just recently, their debut full length album called Ride The Bus. Ride The Bus was released on July 3rd 2026 on Black Throne Productions and contains nine tracks at forty minutes long.
“Intro” is a less than a minute noise of feedback and ambient sounds. “Heavy Joint” begins with the bass and drum groove of a righteous stoner riff. The ear worm rhythm builds with the guitars layered on top and escalates into a smooth and hazy jam session. Cosmic textures of psychedelic sounds are floated on the end of this excellent instrumental. The next track, “4Runner” is a hard rocking banger that has a thick and fuzzy sound. The vocals are gruff with a tinge of melody. Cannabus has a stellar, almost Fu Manchu ferocity that hits all the right spots. The devastating doom brigade of “Volcano” is terrific, a flowing bluesy bass groove with scorching leads. The band really knows how to carry on with a hypnotic allure of repetition as the listener gets lost in the sound.
The fifth track, entitled “The Green” is another great one! The raw and gritty sound of the blown out amps and siren-esc guitar squeals are great. Cannabus has a southern flare in their swampy tones especially when things go more in the blues rock direction. The next number is a full on head tripper! “Space Bussin’” is a psychedelic mind warping experience in sonic bliss. The guitar leads lure you into the groove of the rhythm as you float into space with this instrumental monster. “In The Pocket” returns with the raspy vocals and fuzzed-out blues explosion.
The next song is called “Far Gone Blues”. It has a rocking swagger that erupts with leads, filling in the space, where the vocals command the song onward. The ninth and final track is called “Vagabong”. The doom blues crawl of the verses are obliterating. The song glides along with scores of guitar leads that captivate the listener as the music has such a natural rhythm and flow. Ride The Bus is a fantastic debut album that will appeal to those into classic desert/ stoner rock with generous amounts of fuzz and blues also.
