Black Toaster – Astrobird EP

Black Toaster is a three-piece stoner rock band from Bern, Switzerland. Aside from a few singles released between 2021 and 2023, Black Toaster put out a three song EP in 2024 called Flying Rage Machine. They just released their latest EP called Astrobird, on February 17th 2026. It contains six tracks at twenty five minutes long.

“Astrobird” is an excellent lead off song that begins with a heavy buzz saw bass riff into a hard driving punk rock rhythm. Black Toaster has an immediate catchiness to their sound that is hard to ignore. They instantly grab you from the first chorus with the melodious and dynamic vocals. The music is hard rocking with punk and hardcore influences. The band play tight with a rock solid rhythm section and a guitarist that shreds. The vocals are strong and prominent and the perfect complement to the ripping music. The bass tone is exceptionally fuzzy and super dense with the distortion driven guitars blazing through. The drums are very punchy and solid and cement their sound firmly.

“Liberty Loan” is an ass kicker from the very first riff! It has a heavy groove and slamming rhythm that makes you want to move. Black Toaster really kick out the jams and deliver a hard rocking walloping with “Liberty Loan.” It’s very riff driven and fuzzy with almost a Rage Against The Machine style throw down. The vocals are powerful and catchy and really makes these songs accessible for an average listener not familiar with stoner rock music. The third track “Lord Of The Mountain” is fantastic! The bouncy grunge rock swagger is so enticing and the vocals are so catchy and inviting. These guys know how to write a hook driven rock song, or six!

When “Acid Metal Man” hits you with that heavy groove it’s game over! The guitars and bass are oozing with distortion and the drumming is ridiculously good and makes the song pop out that much more. Black Toaster are the audio architects of heavy riff rocking grooves and catchy tones. The fifth track, “Dead Inside” is another hard punk rocking glory full of hooks and melodies. The music is tight as nails and really resonates with me on many sonic levels. The awesome bass and drums jamming together before the scorching guitar leads enter the mix is awesome! The riffs are fat and sludgy at times really accentuating the sound with a fuzzed-out groove.

“Fireflies” is the final song on this excellent six song EP. I am really impressed with Black Toaster and the Astrobird EP! I wasn’t expecting it to move me this much and I must admit it’s exactly the kind of album that I needed. The analog recording and sound quality really makes this record sound so vital and alive. I can’t wait to hear a full length album from these guys. This is a band to keep on your radar because it’s so damn good! These guys need to be heard and appreciated because they are outstanding at what they do.
