Truckfighters – Masterflow

Truckfighters are a stoner/ desert rock band from Örebro, Sweden. Formed in 2001, they have released six full length albums including: 2005’s Gravity X, 2007’s Phi, 2009’s Mania, 2014’s Universe, 2016’s V, and their latest, 2026’s Masterflow. They also released 2023’s The Fuzzsplit Of The Century (Split with Firestone) and a live album, 2016’s Live In London. The original and main band members are Ozo (Oskar Cedermalm) on bass and vocals, and Dango (Niklas Källgren) on guitars. The most current drummer is Joel “Jolo” Alex. Masterflow was released on April 10th 2026 on their own, Fuzzorama Records. It contains nine tracks at forty one minutes long.

I have been a huge fan of Truckfighters for over twenty years now. I have connected with their music throughout the last two decades in such a profound and personal manner. I wrote a post about them ranking their first five full length albums (read about it here) and always loved everything that they have released. I was lucky enough to have seen them live multiple times, like last August (review here). Anyways, when it was announced that they were recording new music for a new album, I was ecstatic! It has been nearly ten years since their last release, V, and I was curious on how their sound would progress and evolve since then. I was careful not to over listen the three singles that came out in the months prior to the record release. I wanted to witness and absorb the album as one complete entity.

Everything kicks in at once to start “Old Big Eye”, a very direct and straightforward song to begin Masterflow with. The swing beat drumming and mountainous guitar fuzz sound is in full effect! Truckfighters are not wasting any time to melt our faces off with their trademark of fuzz and melody. “Old Big Eye” is a steamroller of riffs hitting you square in the face and injecting cosmic swirls of heavy psych in its path. Dense and trippy guitar leads and vocals that are smooth like butter, this song hits you like a brick! The second track and first single, “The Bliss” cranks out the driving rhythms and fuzz, in all of its glory! The vocals take you on a melodic ride with built in harmonies and pushes the music in a more expansive direction. Octave harmonic guitar leads and orchestrated melodies are leveled with walls of fuzz. The hypnotic grooves and distorted rhythms are blended together with progressive tones and powerful vocals. A very strong and direct song to set forth on the band’s triumphant return. “The Bliss” gives the listener a heavy sampler of the Truckfighters that we have all come to expect and crave, from a sonically specific experience. Truckfighters strike hard and fast with these first two tracks but then they open up their creative floodgates on the next several songs and remind you of their strong relevance and contribution to the heavy underground universe.

The third song entitled “Carver” is the first of the epic tracks included on Masterflow. The highly musical and sonically enhanced number has all the essential qualities that make Truckfighters so vital and engaging. Clean and intricate, almost classical at times guitar playing, matched with layers upon layers of vocal melodies and guitar harmonies, utilizing odd timing, and massive  amounts of fuzz rocking elements. Truckfighters can medley between any different style and contrast back between riff raging rock to acoustically pleasing melodies. The band’s transitions are legendary and “Truce” is further proof of the band’s genius songwriting skills. Beautifully mellow and charming clean tones, with waves of tsunami fuzz are integrated simultaneously. One dynamic burst of one builds upon the intrigue and intensity of the other. In my opinion, not too many bands can match the musical dynamics better than Truckfighters. Instead of ripping our heads off with the next track, the band keeps us submerged and subdued with the title track, “Masterflow”. The song is a dreamy and tribal-esc journey into a laid back musical experience of transcendental storytelling. The almost-instrumental track utilize a spoken message halfway through to bring the Masterflow message into greater clarity.

The album then pummels us with another heavy and fuzzier song called “The Gorgon”.  The dirty and doomy riffing is on another level! Truckfighters are on a mission to take over the heavy rock galaxy and inflict their fuzzy tones in the souls of all mankind. “The Gorgon” is the type of song that will convince any one of the power, intensity, and boundless energy that Truckfighters deliver, in each song and live performance. “Gath” pursues the heavy prog slaughtering of riffs and esoteric and frantic clean strumming. The song has a dark and haunting feel when the vocals enter. The heavy metal crunch is displayed on the progy parts and the song has an ethereal feel overall. The next track “Bad Horse” is an eccentric number that has a driving bass line and mostly clean guitars with a heavy crash of fuzz.

The final track on Masterflow is called “Goin’ Home”. It’s a melancholy and deliberate song that has exceptional rhythmic bass melodies and beautiful guitar parts. The song has a pretty abrupt ending and doesn’t have that masterpiece anthem to finalize this record. When I have this album playing on repeat, it goes right into the first song as if it was meant to, all along. I very much enjoy Masterflow immensely and I continue to hear the brilliant sonic nuances of their amazing music. Nearly ten years since their last recording, Truckfighters have returned with one of the finest albums of the year. Masterflow is the perfect comeback record that will most certainly push the band further ahead in the heavy underground universe.
