Fossile – No King

Fossile is a five-piece stoner rock band from Oulu, Finland. They consist of Eetu Heikkinen on bass, Vallteri on drums, Juho Kukkonen on guitar, Olli Heikkinen on guitar, and Lance Fono on vocals. Formed in 2023, the five-piece released their debut full length album entitled No King on May 15th 2026. Released on Afakasi Records, the album contains seven tracks at forty minutes long.

“Metro Map of Veins” kicks things off with an impressive surge of stoner rock goodness. Fuzzy and powerful riffs of high octane grooves balanced off with soaring vocals and gripping melodies. Fossile are an excellent new band that articulates the primal rage of classic desert rock with a ruthless intensity. Right out of the gate, heavy and engaging rhythms marked with excellent vocals to forge ahead. The second track, “Mongolia” has a sludgy and devastating doom riff that totally destroys! The dynamic shift with the softer tones and great singing augments this song into an almost legendary category. “Guardian” continues on with the flowing grooves and spellbinding vocals. The catchy rhythms and hard rocking resonance is truly, music to my ears. There’s something so vital and cerebral about these seven tracks that draws me in for more.

When the opening riff to “Master Race” begins, I can’t help but smile and get amped up. Thick and fuzzy stoner doom with steamrolling tones and soulful vocals commanding the charge. Fossile are excellent songwriters, as each track tells a story with transforming pitches and melodies going from dark and dense to soothing and harmonious. They mostly stay heavy while expressing anger and passion through different channels of emotion and resonance. The title track “No King” has an exuberant excitement, especially with the vocal delivery. The expressive and intense dialogue is matched with harmonious singing at times. Together, everything coalesces nicely and creates such a captivating listening experience.

The next track called “Hopeless” is another banger! The music is a wrecking ball of heavy grooves and introspective rhythms that ebb and flow nicely with the clean and scream vocals. The final track on this amazing recording is called “Sick Dimension”. The massive battery of doom raging riffs and striking harmonies are undeniable. No King is an absolute banger of a debut that is one of the year’s best thus far. Fossile is definitely a band that I will keep an eye out for in the future because these guys are excellent through and through.
