Daily Thompson – Glue

Daily Thompson is a three-piece alternative band from Dortmund, Germany. Formed in late 2012, their sound is a mix of stoner rock and grunge with indie rock elements. Their full length releases include 2014’s Self Titled, 2016’s Boring National, 2018’s Thirsty, 2020’s Oumumua, 2021’s God Of Spinoza, and 2024’s Chuparosa (review here). The lineup consists of Danny Zaremba on vocals and guitar, Mercedes Lalakakis on bass and vocals, and Thorsten Stratmann on drums and vocals. Their latest album entitled Glue, was released on August 21st 2026 on Noisesolution. It contains eight tracks at forty three minutes long.

“Heart Of Bones” begins Glue with a straight forward hard rocking song. Forging a steady drum beat and a nice tone of distorted guitars, Daily Thompson constructs no nonsense heavy alternative rock songs. “Workout” has a hook-friendly chorus and a simplicity that makes it so good. The vocals are smooth, deep, almost spoken, and gel nicely with the music. Glue is a record that sounds more stripped down and focused on just creating good and basic, free-flowing indie rock songs.

Whether the guitar amps are cranking or the band orchestrates cleaner tones, like the beginning of the song “Fake A Smile”, one thing is certain, Daily Thompson knows how to write a memorable song. The catchy chorus and backing vocals from Mercedes Lalakakis are always inviting. “My heart is fading to black” will certainly get stuck in your head. “Chains” is another excellent number! Starting with clean guitars and then kicking in the fuzz, the song has that familiar 1990’s lure of grunge that is so infectious. Daily Thompson plays this style with elegance and conviction.

The fifth track, “BTK” features Mercedes Lalakakis on lead vocals. The clean strumming guitars and bouncy buildups are vibrant and powerful. “Here I Stand” has a Nirvana draw that works great and expands into a full on rocker. The next track called “Siam” is probably my favorite on the record. It has a gritty rock sound and attitude about it. I hear an Alice In Chains familiarity in the melody and I enjoy the groove, rhythm, and the guitar leads too.

The eighth and final song is called “Lovebugs”. It’s another decent track that solidifies the sonic direction that the band went into with this record. Daily Thompson once again worked with the legendary musician and engineer, Tony Reed. The sound quality on Glue is very clear and impressive and really elevates these songs perfectly. Daily Thompson will certainly quench your thirst for heavy alternative/ grunge/ and indie rock enthusiasts.
